Someone or something has to inspire better pool related content. Lately I'm only interested in Ask the CueMaker or Table mechanic and only as I have questions. Not sure why I go to NPR... I need to check on my boredom level. What did I learn there? Some people can copy/paste like a pro. Others need a good barroom conversation. The more I look there the more I realize how dumb I am. I should have stayed in school
Oh shut-up. 😉😁

Do those facebook groups openly abandon the hobby to argue politics?
No clue.....I'm not active on FB. But regardless.....you think that is happening on AZB? Relegating politics to one of multiple subforums is "openly abandoning the hobby to argue politics"?

Once again.....there has been a broad movement from traditional msg boards to social media. You would have to be blind to not recognize it.

I reported this. BULLYING is bullying. (I made that up on my own). Seriously AZB has been a great part of the game/hobby/lifestyle. From finding a first class mech for my GC4, a master instructor and cue repair equipment/repairs. Best pool forum on the internet. It saddens me when members go off on each other. Fortunes of War on social media...but the political threads have to go... or make the diehards participate
pay per view 😂

I've been on this forum for over 15 years now. It's had it's ups and downs as far as political stuff outside of NPR. Lately the moderation seems to have kept it mostly in-check. It wasn't that long ago that the site seemed to be going back to the old wild-west style it has been in the past. I appreciate it being better moderated. (I haven't ventured into the aiming section in a while, so that might not be 100% accurate, lol)

I participate in a drum forum, political discussion isn't tolerated, and they have no NPR-equivalent. There is an "off-topic" lounge, but they keep politics off the site. They have over 150,000 members (three times this site) so it doesn't appear to be hurting their participation for not allowing politics. 🤷‍♂️

I see expansion across social media no doubt but I also see wider participation on message boards in the guitar/music, watches, knives and handful of other hobbies compared to here. If you don’t go on FB how do you know that’s where people went? What’s the biggest FB billiard group look like? How many members and posts daily?

Years back we’d see the main here with much more volume and do think politics has played a role.

That and some here are just cranky.

The number of cue makers participating is way down. Especially with up and comers. There’s some unusual gatekeeping here. IE you can’t post wood buying sources.

How many pros participate here compared to 15 years ago?

The site is over 20 years old. Not bad for a dying star.

If there’s one thing I know it’s that things are always changing. What worked here 20 years ago might not work today.

In the spirit of progress and building participation we should consider changing things.

I agree. Positive suggestions are welcome. When I first joined, the site had a gold member giveaway. John Barton designed 12 AZB/JB Rugged cases, that were given as gifts to new members. I'm not sure how long ago that was, or how long it's been since that has happened. I also miss the raffles that used to take place, but I understand why it stopped.
Anything you can think of...fire away. 😎👍

One of my tech forums turned 20 in 2023. It continues to grow steadily....it's one of the few that survived social media. Mainstream social media unfortunately killed most of the automotive forums though.

In my 11 years here, I've seen growth in membership & posting.....but I do not have the stats to back it. It'd be up to Mike to share that kind of information.

I go on a few forums/chats: cigars, golf, hi-end air guns, WW2 stuff and this is by far the most entertaining/diverse. Pool players tend to be a tad abrasive/crusty/opinionated and i dig that. Never a dull moment on AZB, you just a need thick skin to allow malcontent shit-slingers like me to not bother you. I just have an old, highly-tuned bullshit detector and i'll tell it like i see it. Sue me. ;)

Check your local laws. If raffles were legitimately conducted to support a legit charity -- say St. Judes -- they may be legal.

That's a pretty good self-awareness of yourself. Ha Ha

When you see someone in there 20's on down looking at their phone.....there is a good chance they are not looking at old school msg boards. Many of those in their 30's and 40's have migrated to FB as well.

Did you answer the question below yet?

Do you have statistics to support this?

It’s my belief. If the mod wants to pull posts per day we can discuss further. It’s my opinion and I’ll stand by it based on personal experience here.

Why not, there is a great chance we will be having another civil war over the division in this country , in the near future.
Whats a few hurt feelings compared to millions of people, being of the non breathing variety.
