I recently posted about having ordered a new "player". That post is here if you'd like to see *my* reasoning about the "statement" my cue should make.

I know that I may make assumptions (we all know about assumptions) about how someone plays when they walk into a poolroom, based at least in part by the case they carry and what's inside.

Obviously for anybody "on the road", or even just getting local action from people they don't know, it may be an even larger issue.

Anyway, I'd like to hear the pool equivalent to the Golf Channel's "What's in the Bag" from my fellow AZ'ers.

Thanks,

Joe

I voted my cue and case are well suited for me. While there are alot of more expensive cues out there, my Pechauer is perfect for me and my stroke. I have tried other cues that have a much stiffer hit, and I just cant seem to stroke shots and control it. I guess thats because I am a D+ player and have no stroke.

Im a high B low A, depending on the day or how much ive practiced that week, I play with a Mcdermott, that has no bumper, a piece of its butt missing, and a shaft I bought for it off of ebay that doesnt quite match it perfectly and has a click feel when I play, lol.

Sounds like a perfect cue for running into a high C or low B player.....:) I think if the click can be "heard" as well as felt, it's excellent for the lemon.....:p

I'm sure this has been mentioned before but I'm curious as to what you guys consider an "A" player to be?

Well, when I was a tournament player they told ME when I was an A player, but that was at the Jointed Cue many moons ago....by todays standards, as I understand them, I was NEVER an A player.

Personally, I figure if you can walk into most rooms and gamble with anybody you don't recognize from "billiard digest" without a spot, you're an A player. At my best I figured I could beat ANYBODY that couldn't play, and NOBODY that could.....:)

My Samsara plays way over my head, if that's what you mean.

If public perception has anything to do with it, most would have to say "Nice cue, it's a shame about his game, though."

Well, if you're interested in how it works in Japan I can shed some light on it for ya.

Over here when you join a tournament, if no one knows you, you are ranked in the C class. You will move up in the ranks depending on how you do in tournament play. My story goes like this... I joined my first tournament as a C player back in 1993. My handicap was 3 points with A being 5. I went undefeated in that one. I was a solid B player at that time but hadn't been ranked so I got the luck of the draw on that one. The next tournament I joined I was ranked in the B class. I stayed there for about 6 months until I won the tournament again.......these are monthly official tournaments. Anyway, when you win as a B player you are moved into the pre A-Class but you're not allowed to get your vest. When you win again as an A player you are officially put into the A-class and given a vest with the clubs logo on the chest and your name embroidered on the back. It took me about a year to get my vest. They also have an SA class which is the highest amateur classification. You have to win at least 5 tournaments out of the year to move into the SA class.

I moved into the SA class around 1997. I was ranked number 1 here in my area until the end of 1999. At that time there were 2 different billiard associations here. They merged at the end of '99 and a new guy took over. He was a crotchedy old bastard and he said that they weren't going to send me to the All-Japan tournament because I wasn't Japanese. I had been sent to that tournament 3 times before and since I was ranked number one there was no question about my going. Anyway, he was a racist ***** and said they weren't sending me. Needless to say I was hotter than a firecracker. It bothered me so bad that something like that was in the world of billiards that I literally didn't want to be associated with it. I didn't pick a cue up for close to 6 years after that. Oh, the other officials of the association got on him about that and it got turned back to where I could go but it was too late. The damage had already been done.

I started playing again about 2 years ago. I still play alright but nowhere near what I used to. I don't have the patience to stay at the pool hall and put hours of practice in. I'm totally happy just going out and shooting with my friends. I haven't joined an official tournament since December 1999 and I still have no desire to get involved with it. I would rank myself in the lower part of the A-class but since I've already made it to SA I can't go down if I join a tournament. Gotta stay where I was. I don't have the chops to compete like that anymore. It's all good though. I shoot good enough to enjoy it and to be able to make a game of it.

my cue and I are well suited. To be honest I don't think you can be WAY better than your cue. You like what you like and if that comes from a $100 cue, then so what. As long as it's not some cheapo screw in tip cue then its fine by me.

I will second that!!!!:D :D

It seems that it would be hard to give an honest answer to this poll. Many to most pool players I know, myself included, think they are anywhere from a little better to much better than they actually are.

Also, judging a cue is a totally subjective task. One might think a $400 is more than enough and another would considet that a cheap cue.

With that said, I voted my cue and I are well suited. I am probably a C player with $300 MCdermott with an ob1. Others might say that my stick would out play me.

Like most of you if i see a sneak pete it is a dead give away that homeboy got skills.

I'd need a spot if I had Zues's thunderbolt with a leather tip on it... That being said I'll take a spot with my Cochran and be happy...as soon as I get it :) :) :) :)

Cues don't create strokes.

Cues don't create KNOWLEDGE.

Stroke+knowledge = speed.

For everything else, there's MasterCard.

I think my weapons are well suited to me.

Joss, nothing fancy, 4 pointer. (MJ 205) with a 314-2.
Brunswick JB conversion, stained it myself.
basic 2/4 case.

i've got a 6 point 5 veneer gilbert with an ivory joint and a sw style but. it far out shines my game, if i played as good as it looked (or as good as it hits) i'd be a world beater

6 out and the breaks is stealing in my situation. My no pool playing ass needs to play with a wallabuska to get an even game with my cue.

I have not reached the full potential of my South West cue. I am sure many people think I play better than I do because of the cue I carry. It gives me a goal in life to someday do my cue justice.
