Searing vs some of the others

Given some discussions in a few other threads regarding the extremely high prices that rather plainish custom Searing cues allegedly are pulling, what are your thoughts vs other big name makers' semi fancy or fancy works? If you so choose, please comment on your reasoning or preferences.

So here goes - if you had 6000 bucks to burn, what would be your pick and why?

Car crash waiting to happen...
How did you go about choosing names for that list?
Further, your initial question "what are your thoughts vs other big name makers' semi fancy or fancy works?" is somewhat vague.
Your final question is as well.

Firstly, are we talking about player cues, or investment pieces, or both?

give me 6k and I'm buying a nice scruggs, a sugartree, a nice jensen, bautista with some chain rings, and then I'm keeping the other 1-2k in the bank.

Woaaa - no car crash please.

This was intended as a simple poll to the masses. It is annonymous so let's see your ideas. I just pulled some names of the biggest guys out there today,,,,,,,,,,right out of my feeble minded head. But these are the stuff also seems to be pretty hot in that price level. There may be more that I have omitted but these are just a limited number for comparison purposes,,,,,,,,,also representing some diffrent styles.

For those that missed the other thread, what is at issue here is a plain 4 point Searing with no inlays for appr. 6000. Just want to see what people here think about that vs some of these other makers' works that have varying decrees of work in them. Obviously for 6000 you can't touch one of Barrys cues with alot of work but you certainly can from these other guys.

And really,,,,,,,,,,,with a few hundred bucks in materials maximum, shouldn't any pool stick be considered an investment, if purchased for that price?

I was thinking the same thing

Love Searing cues, especially the 1/2 joint SS. He easily makes my top 5 and I have enjoyed talking to him at the SBE in past years. And there is no doubt that he is one of the hottest cuemakers and thus the demand is out of control. But, for 6K I would something more than "plain."

BTW - what is plain? Hoppe w/ Veeners? Four point custom full splice no veneers?

For 6K I want some inlays in my veneered DS

Hercek- For the obvious reasons. Design, fit, finish, execution, and playability. If you get a chance look close at his attention to detail, you will know what I mean.
IMHO - Second to none.

Vinnie is right Herceks are super nice and everyone i have owned was flawless.Hercek would be a close secong for me.Szamboti first for obvious reasons.

searing......

definately Searing, Dennis' is producing the most solid built cue made to date.....

I've never owned a Searing, but I would put Joel's work against anyone or anything out there.

This poll is a little skewed though, since a Szamboti has what I would call a higher collectability factor. By that I mean I would expect the value of a Szam to increase faster than the others. That does not, however, mean the quality is higher than any of the other choices.

But again, I'll take the Hercek!

I chose Manzino cause, some of his work with silver & ivory is just incredible, but if BB was up there, that's what I would've chose instead.

I would add Showman, Pete, and Mottey and i will collect their cues when im older which im starting now ...the reason being is they are the only cuemakers that accept my order lol :D ...the rest ignored my email or phone call or not even a chance by telling me "I'll accept your order but i can't promise that i will build your cue before i retire" atleast they give me a benefit of a doubt.... lol.... I will never never own one of their cues that snobbed me even they are very high collectable cues...I'm sorry just trying to bend here lmao

Hello!!!!!!!!!

Hello!!!!!!!!!! As does anybody seem to remember that truely the greatest builder ever and currently is none other than RON HALEY!!!!!! Infact, I have a reliable source that told me sometimes Dennis Searing will call Rn Haley for advice. Sorry, but when it comes to high end work Ron's the BEST Hit wise it's Zieler, Bluegrass, Sugartree, Hill and Southwest!!!!!!!!! IMO

Hitwise is the only thing that really matters and I think a flat-faced Craig Peterson is the best feeling cue I have ever hit with. DPK is just under that.

For $ 6,000.00 is that a new cue or on the secondary market?

So if I understand the question of "plainish Searing" vr other cue makers cues that are "semi fancy or fancy" for the money.

So if buyers are willing to pay $ 4k,5k,6k or more for a planiish Searing say with 4 points,4 veneers and no inlays and for the same kind of money you can buy another cue makers cue with all kinds of inlays etc, it says a lot about Dennis' cratfmanship, qualtiy and value.

Actually by comparing a Searing "plainish" cue to the above mentioned cue makers on the list, it is a great compliment to Dennis Searing's talent and how much cue owners appreciate Dennis' workmanship and hit.

When I look at the list and see Barry,Joel,Bob,Ernie etc. you are talking about great cue makers. John Showman and Pete Tascarella should be on the list.

For the money: Dennis Searing,Barry Szamboti,John Showman,Bob Manzino,Joel Hercek,Pete Tascarella,Ernie Guiterrez. Every cue maker I have mentioned is worth the $ 6,000.00. Their styles are different and I would be proud to own any of these cues and spend $ 6,000.00.

Sometimes less is more ("plainish"), but then again a "plainish" Searing is not really "plainish".......I call it "beautiful"

For 6K I'll take 71 Dale Perry's.......lol.......I think it's tough to beat a Szamboti. It just feels like money besides the work is incredible.
