Pooky got cheated at Triple 9 billiard in Maryland

I could swear I read almost this exact scenario on these forums before.. You guys must be picking the wrong joints to play in..

You need to go back. Mop the floor wih them every week. And I would have demanded my ticket money back.

They should not be allowed to run a pool tournament -- ever. That is downright wrong! I will spread the news that Triple 9 in Jessup should be avoided. Nobody wants to deal with crooked pool people. Is one of those three crooks the owner? If not, I'd write a letter to the owner of that establishment and let him know what happened.

You need to go South, Pookie, to the tournaments in Virginia. When you go north of the Mason-Dixon line, you need to be cautious.

That said, I do hear that Top Hat up by Baltimore is okay. Henry is a mainstay there and has been known to engage in a little action every now and then. ;)

Naw, the owner is clueless about pool, but he's a straight up guy, it's Ron, he's been a weasel in Maryland pool for over 40 years. Pooky should actually speak to Stan the owner & tell him what happened & Stan would intercede on the matter for him.

I also agree with your assessment of Top Hat, there's far more than just Henry if Pooky wants action, 9 ball or one pocket or 14.1.

Pooky definitely got cheated here.
I notice that tournament directors take the liberty of changing the BCA rules during a tournament.
I was playing in a 9 ball tournament one Saturday and my opponent broke the rack. Balls went everywhere but nothing fell. The one ball was hanging in the corner pocket. My opponent sat down and I walked around the table chalking my cue and looking for open pockets on every ball. Suddenly, the one ball dropped in the hole. My opponent jumps up and claims it's still his turn. I told him no, it gets put back in the edge of the pocket and it's my shot.
He argued and called the tournament director over. We explained everything and the TD decided we should play the rack over, with my opponent breaking. How's that for stupidity?

Pookster, did you get your ticket money back? All of this sounds like they don't want you there anymore winning their tournaments. Even though you went two and out this time they probably don't want you coming back and running the bangers off.

They changed the bracket......made you win an extra game in one tournament......took your money for a ticket and then wouldn't pay when you win the prize. They are sending you a message.

I took pops to that place and tried to get a table for him. The staff refused to rent us a table. Reggie barksdale's cousin was there and they refused him a table! After 20 minutes of trying and disrespect. We left! That place and staff are the worse I have seen.

Claimed a list existed, but never displayed it. The multiple tables sat open and then it was saving for a party later.

The place has one gold crown and nothing but bangers at the time. Once the couple finished we asked for the Brunswick.

I don't go there anymore. Ask Reggie barksdale or his cousin. They were there.

Those are grounds for a lawsuit. I know it's hard to prove, but if enough people were treated in this manner, a class action lawsuit would triumph. I'd be sending in "secret players" of all walks of life in that joint and see how they are treated. Document it before they go in and after with dates and times. Nobody should allow this kind of business to exist in the year 2015. It's outrageous!

Reggie was playing and his cousin tried to help and asked for the table for us. Said, he was a regular and could get the table. He tried and they disrespected him as well. I was getting ready to buy a sandwich and was waiting for pops to get his table situation resolved. When it did not work out, I could not bring myself to buy "ANYTHING" from them.

I can VOUCH for at least 1 of pookies visits. I met up with him at that joint and left for a match with HENRY at Top Hat afterward. it was definitely January. I had just won pretty good money toward my trip to DERBY. School prevented the trip and I was upset and tried my luck with HENRY since I could not go.

There's a bar here that is part of the big APA travel league that barred entry to a group of guys because "their kind wasn't welcome".

The bar lost their league team for 5 years.

I live in NY, too. Idiots everywhere.

I was there that day also ,, I have been there many times , they do get confused on thier board because more than one guy writes down names ,, they usualy ask if you played 4 times ,,
The key there is wait till its close to starting time before you put your name in because they like to get matches going early
The place is very diverse many walks of life in there ,Reggie is a regular there and I'm more than sure he will vouch for the place ,, they do hold tables for some regulars there on turney night I believe cause I see the same people on the same tables atleast it appears that way
All in all its not a bad place to play

I believe when your opponent sat down and allowed you to get up and walk the table, he conceded his turn. Sounds like the TD didn't fully assess, and just resorted to re-racking, and replay the game.

Pooky definitely got cheated here.

Can't comment on 999's as far as tourney but have played there many times. BUT, IN OUR AREA yes this is rampant. I have quite a few times had to " take " my prize money OR fight my way out the door. Sucks - !maybe. I recall it as fun.

I hope the LOCALS take action and BOYCOTT triple 9's until this is resolved.

there are a lot of good people that frequent that place and I think enough people were around that night and saw what happened. If it was my local room "Champions" then Richard Allen or Gary Allen would be hearing about this and removing the director if need be.

Never underestimate the power of the people. If they get more than 2 players next week and it does not significantly disrupt their business, I would be surprised.

With only one gold crown or nice table. A couple guys come in with several thousand dollars worth of equipment and want the table are disrepected to keep the table empty and available from 3 to 7 when a regular arrives? If I know I can NEVER get to play on the good equipment regardless of skill level or bet is very disturbing. If I do match up in there, I would need to hit some balls on the equipment to get familiar? Yes? But, there that is not possible.

We talked pretty good that day Mr. One and You know pooky was there also! They admitted the 2 already and this one for sure makes 3!

Reminds me of the time I went to visit my kids in Santa Cruz many Moons ago. They lived in Ben Lomond, a few miles outside of town. I picked up a throwaway paper and saw an Ad for the Santa Cruz City Eight Ball Championship. It was that weekend, so I decided to check it out.

My first time in the poolroom and I got signed up no problem, something like a $35 entry fee. First place was guaranteed $500 plus a trophy. Make a long story short, I won the tournament, beating the local champ in the finals using a house cue. I got my trophy okay but no money right away. The owner told me to wait a while. After an hour or so (watching the owner sit behind the counter doing nothing but BS'ing with people) I asked him if I could get paid, telling him I needed to head back up to Ben Lomond. Now he took an attitude with me, like who the fuc' are you telling me what to do.

Shortly thereafter he retreated into his office and I waited some more, hoping he would come out with the money. Nothing doing, so finally I opened the door and walked right in. He was on the phone and gave me this surprised and very unfriendly look. I sat down at his desk and just stared at him. He got off the phone and told me I couldn't come in there without knocking, so I knocked on his desk - LOUD!

He said if I don't get out he would call the police. I told him go right ahead, I wasn't going anywhere until I got paid. He was PISSED! But I didn't care because I was just as pissed. I had played all day (there were 32 players) to win this tournament and I wanted my money!

He said a few choice words to me and reached in his desk and got out a stack of bills and paid me. He told me to get the fuc' out and don't come back. That was over 30 years ago and I never went back to this day. I think that poolroom is still there but someone else owns it now.

P.S. I threw the trophy (cheap plastic) in the trash!

I play in that tournament regularly (though havent been inthe last 3 weeks). Decent tournament with a large field on a weekly basis.

I never had the problem with the Super Rack issue but I was aware of the mandatory visits before a full payout. I know you get $100 instead of the large pot if you werent there enough times, that is probably why they sold you the tickets.

They do get a lot of players and I can imagine it might get a little confusing for the TDs at times but I fortunately have not had an issue there yet other than long wait times between matches. I wouldnt let something like a race to 3 weekly tournament discourage a player of your caliber and reputation not making a return to pool.

Just my opinion.

Edited to add that I have seen you (Pookie) there at least 2 other times this year. I wasn't there last Saturday.
