Learning to finish high in tournaments would be my goal. I'm used to league play, including under pressure, and I play some of my best pool when it counts the most (division championships, etc.). But in tournaments, I usually play my first match very very poorly, and in a single elimination tournament, rarely see the second round. I'll finish way below players that are nowhere near my speed. So I'd like to play enough tournaments to learn to make my finishing position accurately reflect my ability level relative to the other players.
Also, stringing racks. Lately my full table run outs (either run out off my own break, or off my opponent's dry break, which is a little harder because all the balls are still on the table) in 8, 9, and 10-ball have all become much more frequent, as I've been increasing my pocketing and positional consistency. Every time I go play lately, I'll have several full table runs. But I never string racks at all. My high run in 8-ball, 9-ball, and 10-ball are all a single rack. I feel I have the ability level to have at least a 2-pack in 8 or 9-ball, but have yet to get one.
And lastly, learning to play better 14.1 through decreasing unforced errors. I feel I see the patterns well enough, have good enough control over my stroke, and know how to manipulate the cue ball well enough to have runs in the 20's every time I play 14.1. But I almost never run more than 10 or 12, because with a wide open table, somewhere between 5 and 10 balls into the run, I'll hit a 3-foot moderate-angle shot straight into the rail. If I could stop doing that, or at least decrease the frequency a lot, I would be so much better at all games than I am now.
So those are my 3 goals, I guess. If I actually achieve them, I'll feel I can truly call myself a real player by 2009.
