I think folks were more turned off by the bad acting than the dumping.

Funny, I was having the same thought reading down this thread. Strange things happen so I will allow the ridiculously long odds this wasn't a deliberate dump. However, Buddy hadn't played that poorly since he got out of three corner pants!
It had all the appearances of a dump, a very very clumsy dump. "Vince" was right in The Color of Money, a good dump just requires missing a ball or two at the right time and you need not be blatant about that.
It seemed to be a very obvious dump and a slap in the face of people who had a lot of pride. Wouldn't have been a surprise if a few pool players turned up in oil drums with the lakes going dry now. They are finding some of those drums but no worries none of the actors disappeared.
To add insult to injury, the report was that pool players only made pocket change over the alleged dump. Seems like as usual men's pool players screwed themselves. It isn't the same people all the time but men's pool seems to be toxic. Always some that will leap at a quick buck and the hell with pro pool overall.
Looking at any other activity that the competitors get paid well to do, they get paid well because they make other people even more money. Pool players think they should get it all and the venue and organization should get nothing.
Pool players are their own worst enemies. Forty or fifty years ago they could have built something up in five or ten years. Today, they could build something up in five or ten years. I don't think I am going to live long enough to see that change. When people are trying to figure out how to pay last month's bills five or ten years is a very long time!
