Hello, gentlemen.

I thought this list might be encouraging to folks just starting out in the simple pastime of pool ball collecting.

Hello, gentlemen.

In an attempt to broaden contacts yet further within the pool ball collecting world, I have created a presence on Twitter (or X as it’s now known).

Entirely non political, just another place to post up pictures and reach out to like-minded souls. Please have a look, post up your own billiard related stuff, and follow me if you can… I promise to reciprocate.

Most older members of the thread are kind enough to indulge my many eccentricities, so hope you will forgive yet another rather random post.

The Roman emperor, Gaius, better known as Caligula, kept a slave called Saturninus who was a 𝘴𝘱𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘢… the Keeper of the Balls. Are we not therefore, my friends, modern day 𝘴𝘱𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘦?

The attached image shows Saturninus and his occupation, recorded in a small museum in Rome.

I think so, Mr B.

The seller contacted me but, alas, I’m not a clay era collector.

I hope he does well. The set appears to be in lovely condition and chances are good of finding an appropriate cueball.

Agreed. I think the lack of the original box has a big impact on value.

It appears promising that those Hexagonals might tip over into four figures… currently $860 with eight hours remaining in the auction.

With so many interested parties it would be surprising not to witness a flurry of action at the death.
