Pool cue components or styles that you are not a fan of.

I’m not a fan of more than 4 points, no wrap, leather wrap, hate seeing a cue without ring work above and below the linen wrap and worst of all is cf shafts

Quick release jointed cues.... if that's not the proper term.
Then, any jointed 2 piece cue that doesn't have a pin on the butt end that looks like a Screw.

I thought it would be interesting for people to list things that they're not a fan of seeing in pool cues.

This is not meant to insult somebody else's work or taste. This is just things that you may not be a big fan of. We each have our own specific tastes and styles that we enjoy.

I'll start.

I'm not a fan of Purple Heart wood and I'm not a fan of floating points.

Turquoise, mother of pearl, overlays or printed ons, cats, solid color cues, or American flag representations.

More information on why I don’t like reverse points on the buttsleeve…..(DeeDeeCues interpreted it correctly). I simply prefer a more traditional look whether it be a hoppe style or inlays and reverse points look like a cheap filler and just don’t do it for me. One other thing I don’t care for is dots at the end of sharp points on the forearm as it makes me think it’s just a cover-up, whether it actually is or not. Just my .02

you don't see it very often nowadays but those floating dots were really ugly. butterfly style is ugly. totempole style too.

Mine are mostly looks.
Already mentioned:
reverse butt points -absolutely WTF... anti climactic
linen wrap - yeah. Any wrap for that matter.

and personal feelings, black butt/white shaft
mixed colors/maker crying out for attention/etc...
Construction wise no issues. Maybe Schmelke fat joint, for sure pin in the shaft, crappy tapers - think snooker

Stainless rings in the middle of the handle, that will eventually pop through the finish.
I've lost my taste for long ferrules over the years even though that's what I came up playing with.
Uneven points on a sneaky, or any cue for that matter.

Thanks, for the response!

How about 4 points on the shaft.... seen a few of those.

Busted Lutman in KC yrs ago, he got pissed at his gal after emptying out.
Walkin' away I heard em ''break his cue''.... It had turquoise points (4) on the shaft, snapped it hard on the steel railing.... I smiled walking away.
Paybacks are a MF but expected with animals of ''his'' character.

Another vote for floating points. Turquois, malachite or red coral inlays.
I was gonna say just that, sans the red coral coz I not seen that

Here's my cue. Plays so good I sad fuggit...urg.

The right piece can be a beautiful thing. ;) Paired with the wrong woods can make it a fugly thing! o_O
It's an extremely nice playing wood in a cue. It's down side is there are very few colors that can be paired with it.
We specified Bocote mostly because it’s fairly heavy and I wanted a 19.5oz cue with a light 3.4oz CF shaft. I like dark blue with red accents on cars, so I specified those color inlays. Ed Petersen paired that with Purple Heart. I know it’s not everyone’s taste but I love it.

Couple more, inlaid joints, look really strange too me. Joint pins in the shaft instead of the butt, can’t get over that. So basically any Robinson cue!

Anything on top of a point. Dots, daggers, spears, etc I don’t care. Ugly.
I’ll take uneven points over that ugliness.
No offense to Jacoby it’s what popped up.
They produce some nice cues.

I thought it would be interesting for people to list things that they're not a fan of seeing in pool cues.

I do not like wraps.
I do not like metal at the joint (wood-wood)
I do not like inlays or points on the shaft.
Basically anything else goes.

I've always been a fan of 'Harvey Martin/McDermott' style Big Pin flat face jointed cues!

I played Top Level 3C with an 'Modified' C3/w a Cork wrap/18 oz.

Jim designed at that time (1981) a 'Blended Pool/3C' taper shafts at 12mm.
