Pool Cues On Airplanes

Never traveled by air to a tournament before. Guess cues have to be checked as luggage. What is the best way to arrange this so my case and cues do not get damaged or "lost"? Any info appreciated. Vinny

I ship mine Fed-ex overnight to my hotel. I never check my cue case with an airline. Too many things get lost yo know!

Best suggestion I"ve heard is to have a suitcase/bag big enough to put your cue case and your clothes in.

Last time I went to the DCC, I stuck mine in a soft case in my luggage. Maybe I will buy a hard case to better protect the cue. Be warned, a pool cue is pretty long, so you'll have to have some large luggage! :p

I've heard some people put them in PVC pipes for protection. I'm not sure if the airlines would think it's bomb or something though.

I have a small hard sided golf bag travel, I bought on ebay for about $50, I took the dividers out and put bubble wrap around the case and it works great, it is hard on top and bottom, not that heavy but very protective.

One thing to remember guys is the airlines can xray your bags, which they do, an they can open an inspect cue cases, I had a 12x24 I took 2 years ago to the DCC, an you are not allowed to put a lock on it, you cant insure it, so I used 2 zipp ties through the zipper pulls an some asshole cut them off opened the case an out droped several cues ,I had a nice older Tom Coker that got the finish chipped an a Gilbert an could not make a claim,so my suggestion would also be if your flying ship them at least you can insure them.its worth the 30-40 dollars for the piece of mind.
Good luck to all who are going .

You can get a lock for your luggage. Can't remember the name, but its a combination lock that the security guys can access. I used when I paid extra luggage fees to ship 30 cues to the Super Expo a couple years ago. Maybe someone here can give you the name of the lock and place to buy.

Last time I traveled on an airline I simply wrapped my cues in bubble wrap and put them diagonally in my travel bag and checked the bag.

It is apparent going thru' the xray what the cues are so it's unlikely that your bag will even be opened.

Then I carry my empty cue case on board with me as a carry on.

Plus this also saves the additional cost of checking a 2nd bag which most airlines now charge for:thumbup: .

I put my cuecase in my suitcase (surrounded with towels), all is insured by Visa.

There is no other chance to travel with it (I called some airlines ....)
I heard about a possibility to place your cues in the pet section on the airplane (better temperature) but I was not able to get more information about that.....

Just funny:
Nobody asks me when I travel with my monopod (for my camera, similar size as my cues and could also be a baton....)

I am at Narita airport, Tokyo. I checked 3 cues worth almost $30K in Bangkok. Hopefully they will be in Chicago when I land in 12 hours. They are in cue cases packed in suitcases.

About that pet section.... I have a friend who ships her dogs to and from places. The airlines will only allow animals to be shipped during certain temps, because that area is NOT climate controlled. We had to drive out to a place in one of the Carolinas to pick up her dog, one winter, because it was too cold to ship the dog back home by plane.

Oh yeah.... Good luck to all of you who are headed to DCC....

I keep my cues in my hard case and pack them inside my luggage. Have done this 4 or 5 times with no issues. I guess I've been lucky considering I have never had any luggage lost. Whelp I guess one way to look at it is that worst comes to worst and your luggage is lost in route to DCC, at least there will be plenty there to buy lmao. See yall there, with my cues on my shoulder :) Hopefully
