pool cues on planes

Hey guys doing some traveling and this is my first time on a plane. Can you carry pool cues on a plane and if I can is there any special requirements.

The Exception is Private Aircraft, and AF 1 if you is the PREZ.:rolleyes:

No Cue on Commercial Avaition Aircraft........ :rolleyes:
 
what we do

The last 2 years we went to Vegas our whole team shipped or cues FedEx to the hotel we we staying. The boxes are insured and were waiting for us at the hotel. Seems like it cost about 40-50 per person. I wouldnt trust them being checked with the luggage. Just because it gets on the plane doesnt mean youll see it when you get there. There are several stories from people who never got their cue when they landed. I recommend shipping

I had a 16hr. adventure in Phillies airport, but thats another story. But when I was on my 16th hr. and 3rd. Corona I saw a guy in the bar(pub) that had a pool case on his shoulder. Knowing this law or rule too I aked him and he said he wasn't sure so he just brought it and they let him through.
 
Mike Massey once said that he puts his cue case inside a golf bag, and fills the rest of the bag with clothing or other items he'd be packing anyway. He seemed satisfied with it, although I've never been bold enough to try this myself.

Golf Bags go in the Cargo Area, and can not be Carried On an Airplane....:(

Just came back from Vegas. My better half bought me a Samsonite 35" duffle bag on wheels that held my Instroke case just fine. There is a lower half to the bag that I packed my jeans and shorts in. The top half had the case and a few other things packed.
I packed some towels around the case as well. Even packed a small towel inside the top of the case to keep the cues from shifting.
This was my first trip carrying my cue and it worked out just fine. Hope this helps a little.

But you DID have to check the Samsonite bag, right? The TSA would not let you carry it on, if it had pool cues in it. If you did carry it on, it was a fluke.
The airlines, for some strange reason, consider pool cues weapons. :confused: :(

put ur cues in a cheap hard case..case will get damaged but not ur cues..
well if u wanna bring ur case along then it's a diff story all together
 
You can check your cue through as if it were a rifle if you arrange it in advance with the airline. If this is done it will be handled like a rifle and hand carried on and off the plane. It will be stored on the plane seperately from the regular baggage and hand delivered to you at the conclusion of your flight. Most airlines will do this.

I have a travel cue made by Ron Kilby, which plays exactly like his regular two piece cues. I can pack this cue in my bag and have no problem checking it through regular baggage. Of course it could be stolen since bags can't be locked anymore. Isn't traveling wonderful - NOT.

I've been flying back and forth to Vegas eight or nine times a year since 9/11. I've used a Porper Carry Bag each trip. No problems with damage. I use plastic tie raps to close the bags zippers. Using an unusual color allows me to instantly see if someone has been in it. The TSA must acknowledge opening your bag. Southwest sent my bag to Burbank (BUR) instead of Buffalo (BUF) once. They gave me two hundred dollars for the error. Bag came the next day. Now I leave a cue set and case in Vegas. No more problem potential! Good luck. Hope to meet you there.

I have tried several things, including the soft golf bag (affectionately called the body bag!) and packing clothing around the pool case. The advantage to that as opposed to packing it in a large suitcase is they don't charge you for the bag overweight charge.

Any closed bag I use, I put on a TSA lock which allows only them to open it with a special key and the lock is not destroyed, so you can re-use it.

My method of choice lately is to get a long plastic bag from the airlines at check-in. They use these for skis, some for car seats. It is very durable thick plastic, plus wadded up around the sides, it adds more cushioning.

I have a hard Talisman case with my name embossed all down the back, so since the bag is transparent, they can see that it is not something they want to steal. White zippy ties are put on the end, the excess bag is tied off and cut, and a bunch of 'Fragile' stickers are slapped on so they don't throw it around, plus the ID tag. I also put an ID tag inside my case pockets. So far, I have not had even one rip in the plastic.

As soon as I get my baggage, I tear off the plastic and use the backpack straps to carry it out of the airport. Then the same thing happens on the return trip.

The bags, zip ties and stickers are all free from the airline. However, on my last flight, the airline said they didn't have any bags, and another airline was gracious enough to give me one. Not sure what I am doing Thursday when I go to Vegas though.

I do miss the old days when you could carry a cue on. In addition to the obvious advantages it was a good conversation starter in airport bars. Those days are gone so the rolling duffle is my choice now, but I’m not emotionally attached to my cues I consider most anything to be replaceable.
 
Air Cargo Compartment Conditions ?

Have wondered what temp extremes might be experienced from runway thru high altitude and back down on a cold/hot day. Is all checked in luggage in a preasurized area on board? Not just the puppy cage areas? Hopefully the humidity wouldn't bounce too quickly?? Would "air freight" cargo holds' conditions be any different than passenger aircraft?

Can almost hear the cocobolor fibers and finish cracking on my favorite 4 pointer now:eek: ... I bet we have a local air cargo expert around here! What U think?
