Pool Hall Junkies aka......Losers??

Pardon me for not reading all three pages:

Some people don't have wives or kids. Either it didn't work out or they just don't want them.

Some people don't have other hobbies, or they just really like pool over other choices.

There was a kid that once spent all his time on a golf course instead of hanging out with other kids or playing football or going to the mall.....Tiger Woods...

Another kid just wanted to ride his bike 8 hours a day.....Lance Armstrong..

Regardless of why they are there, these individuals like it.....whether it's a cold beer after a hard day at work, or the company of good friends they've known for years, or maybe they just love pool that much....

Either way, they aren't losers, and you don't deserve to judge or label them.....I wish I could go play more than once or twice a week, so I could spend some more time there.....with the losers

I dont judge anyone, people who are considered loosers are considered to be by the peer's whitch they play, not by me. if you go for social reasons and never play a serious match or are content when you loose you proboly wouldnt understand. I personaly hate to loose, its just bad, but I cant win every game or make every shot.

Im guilty so I pretty much have a handle on these situations, first hand..

Looks like you were trying to start that back up in Reno with that Asian poker dealer. At least that gives me some point of reference for what you think is a "hot chick". :D

NO NO NO!!!!! She was not a "hot" chick! But what happens in Reno, stays in Reno:)

All I can

say is that this thread is a total failure. I don't get to go to my local pool hall everyday due to me not being able to afford table time everyday. If I could afford it I would be there evryday though. In life people are different. Different strokes for different folks.

then there are people that are there so much they have breakfast lunch and dinner there....even get married and divorced on the same table...literally ;)

Two comments. First, you must be at the pool hall a lot to know all this about the habits of the regular patrons. Second, why don't you just ask these people at your pool hall ? It seems to me that if you want to know about them, asking anonymous people on the Internet may not be the best method. Sure, you'll get opinions, but if you want to know why a specific person does what they do, you should ask them, not a third party (although partys are good), like, literally, eh !

Now that's the best advice anyone will ever give you about this subject. :p

Really a bad thing?

Hello,
I am a Pool Hall Junkie, In fact I Like it. Pretty much most of my time is spent
on or near a table. From the time I'm out of school(3:05) Till early in the morning(1:00) I hit the hall. When I get home I'll play a few games and go take a shower to fall asleep.I have more invested in my case than I do In my car,Although I did get a good deal on my S-10:) . I don't care about wasting my life, after all, I love this game, More than Anything else in the world......

...............But, I hardly Spend any time with my parents or family, I do regret it when I think about it, Sometimes... I feel more welcome at a pool hall than I do in my own home. I almost don't even know my moms Boyfriend and I have known him for three years.
I, Had a Girlfriend till last Monday.

.She Called my phone and left a message saying,"I need to talk to you."
I was at the hall, I cleaned up and went to go see my little lady. I pulled into the driveway where I See her mom, the nicest woman I have ever met, In tears. She just looked at Me.
I went inside to see my Lizzy, Balling her eyes out. We love each other so much, I vowed to marry her next year two weeks ago.
She looked at me and said,"It's me or pool."
...........I chose pool over the my Lizzy. Friday She tryed to kill herself over a poolbum.

I guess I am a loser, I'm a poolbum thats all I'll ever be......

When I lived in NYS, EVERY DAY or damn near it. My wife learned to live with it {I think}.

I'm a poolhall junkie.

I'm there damn near 7 days a week. Usually it's to have a beer after work before I head home or go to class. (Oh, forgot to mention that I work full time as a school administrator and go to school full time working on my Bachelor's in Psychology)

Usually on Thursday/Friday nights I'll leave my case in the office and show up just to drink and share stories with the crowd at the bar - maybe throw in a DVD or watch TV.

Saturdays I like to go and find action since everyone and their mother tends to show up at around 8. Then once midnight rolls around I pack up my cues, go out and have a rip-roaring good time with my friends/girlfriend.

Sure I might have a couple of better things to do. Sure I could see my girl more often, but she works and studies full time too.

Keep passing judgement on people who don't live the way you do. You'll make lots of friends.

I love going to the pool hall just as much as the next person but can anyone here say they go everyday? I use to go a lot but after i got a little bit established i was fine about it i stop going as often but still maintain the knowledge i gained, i go about once a week or at most twice....but no matter what day i go i will see the same faces there every single time...people like 25 to 40 i figure they would have something better to do than to be at a pool hall 5-7 days a week no? correct me if im wrong but dont you have wives? girlfriends? kids? other hobbies? a life even? i know some people go there to meet females also but damn isnt that like a loser move? someone here get back to me and tell me why you must be there full time? thanks

I guess some of us just aren't as high class as you are.

it's true i do have a lot of friends
It's good that you already have lots friends because it's a cinch you won't be making any more here with your sock puppet posts.:p
You are the one that needs to get a life. If you have to get your jollys by being a troll and putting other people down, it's probably you that needs to re-evaluate your misguided passion.

I go to the poolhall a LOT but guess what, that's what I like. I have a girlfriend, I work in my field of expertise and have some time to see family and friend but pool is a passion. You can't take that out of my life.

You're right--you don't know!

I'm always amazed as to why people would come on a pool forum only to show their utter contempt for the sport and the people that play it. Anyone who knows about this game is fully aware of the amount of devotion that is required to attain mastery. Why put down people who are devoted to something that they love? Are you also saying that people who play tennis or chess or music everyday are losers? Who the hell are you to make such a statement? If more people developed a passion for something and followed it there would be a lot less people spending their valuable time and spiritual energy on player hating.

For your information, the pool world is made up of all kinds of people from all walks of life. If you ever move out of your limited confines and visit billiard establishments around the country, you will find everyday players ranging from junkies to college professors to millionaires, all united in that space by their love of the game. Obviously, this is something far beyond your ken, and we can only hope that time and effor will bring you enlightenment.

Pool is a sport that must be played often if one wishes to play it well, and thus if one is a serious player he will be at the room on most nights, period. Other everyday players may not be competitive players per se, but find pool to their recreational activity of choice. Be aware however, that many people in both camps are, like myself, educated, gainfully employed, married or with a partner, own a home, engage in other sports and recreational pursuits on a high level, and are active in their communities. We ain't nobody's losers!

Pool Hall? What pool hall, closest I know of is 200 miles. The senior citizen's table sure gets a lot of play though!

For just a second take all your thoughts of pool and the people who are playing pool out of your mind. Try to think simply in general. There is a much more important question to be asked here (of yourself, of your mindset)

You mentioned things like trying to "help them", you wondered if they have family or wives, again, take your thoughts completely out of pool for a second and ask yourself this...

What the hell am I wondering about what 6.6 billion people I don't know from Adam are doing with their lives. This is neurotic behavior, abnormal and, on a much more generic level, most likely in need of attention by a trained professional before it gets any worse and you start holding people in McDonalds hostage for ordering Big Macs every day and clogging their arteries.
