Pool Hall Junkies

I didn't say I didn't like the movie. Just said it had some cheesy lines. But I agree, they're still great lines. That's what makes the movie what it is. Its still about pool so I loved it regardless. And Christopher Walken is great in any roll. I've only seen it once and I missed the first 20 minutes or so. I'm sure I'll watch it a few dozen more times and pick up on more good stuff. I haven't seen Shooting Gallery or 9 ball the Movie as someone else mentioned. I'll have to keep my eye out for those.

Yeah the first 20 minutes is the best part of the movie. It says up the whole story line for the rest of the movie. You will find you can watch it over and over And still pick up something you missed. Shooting gallery Is probably the most underrated cool movie there is. You have to really pay attention when you watching shooting gallery. Tenderloin tony is my favorite character in the whole wide world of pool.

just watched it for the first time this morning while i was sulking in my hangover... and ill probably watch it again before the weekend is over.

found it very entertaining :D

Jo Jo , it's a small world !!!!

First of all, welcome aboard the AZ Forums.

U will learn a little from the fellas and gals who know something
about the game of Pocket Billiards.

On the flip side of these posts U will find the sense of humor of some of
the posters. They will certainly keep a smile on your face.

Secondly, it was your Pool Hall Junkies post that caught my eye!
Then I noticed that U were from Canton.
My father was born in Canton! Hence it's a small world.

My friend Mike Massey had a nice little spot in the movie!

I did'nt see the movie until about nine months ago and for the budget
that Lars had, he could'nt do much more. It was nice to see Rod Steiger on film again. It was his final movie. He passed shortly after the film was in the can.
Hey Chazz Palmentari did a good job but most likely had limited time on the set.
Clint Eastwoods daughter has to find work where she can. LOL

Take Care,
Noel

It wasn't that bad. It was actually pretty decent, but that whole "I paid for your shot, now it's my turn" was pretty dumb.

Thanks JoJo

I'm glad that U got the pot stirring!

So Jo Jo , U going to watch Shane and Darren play this afternoon?

Go Shane!!!

Noel

I love this movie. It's my understanding, from Robert Leblanc, that much of the original script was changed after it was originally written, to be more "studio friendly." This movie has tons of my favorite lines in it. I love to just have it playing in the background while I'm shooing in the basement.

"Rack 'em, Joe. My fingers so'."

"I'm a millionaire, if I lose 80, I get another 80."

"Women... Can't even live with them anymore."

"I'm not sure I wanna be hanging out with a guy who noticed a crease in my pants."

"It's common knowledge."

I still watch PHJ at least twice a year on the Tube.
I like Mars and you can't beat a movie with Walken in it no matter what.
It does have some great shots and lines in it.
Walken, Steiger, Palmateri (sp) Schroeder. These are all very decent actors.
Walken is a Master Thespian.

Fool For Pool, are you feeling a little under the weather?

Hope yer ok.

Personally thought this was a good movie. No award winner but none the less, still a good movie to watch a few times a year :D

My favorite line was at the end whenever he starts talking about the lions lol laugh every time. I think it's a good flick. Hustler, color of money, and pool hall junkies are the best we get to watch.

'The difference between me and you is you lose 50,000 and you're broke and I lose 50,000 I just go get another 50,000.'

"you sure as hell don't wanna watch me play pool. Unless, of course, I'm blind folded and hand cuffed with a pool cue stickin' out of my ass."

I laughed so hard at this line I had to pause the movie LOL!!!!

Another good line was
"Oh, did I stutter? Everybody gone all quiet and shit? About a minute ago it was like an evening at the Apollo up in this mother****er, now all of a sudden it's quiet as a church. That's all right, Chico, I don't blame you. I've been beatin' this Jimmy Walker lookin' mother****er all goddamn night, he can't win."

I think the whole N bomb joke was pretty funny, not to sound racist but he was just so casual about throwing it around. LOL good stuff

The funny part of that is that this is at the beginning of the movie and it's a hustle but at the end Joe pulls the same move on the guy he taught it to but then gets flat high rolled.

"I just paid $5000 to take YOUR shot, now it's my shot." ,"It's not the old moves you should be watching out for Joe".

A lot of people think it's not real enough.. I compared it watching the movie fast and furious. If you goto a movie like that remember it's a movie...not a documentary! There's going to be a lot of unrealistic stuff. Enjoy it for what it is ..entertainment. I love the movie...A lot of funny stuff..

What I didn't like was the scene about buying the shot....
...try that one in any pool hall...but call the ambulance first.

Yeah, there is no way that wouldn't have led to a heated argument. It also gives the notion that pool isn't won on the table, but is won by making moves or sharks instead. A minor flaw in an otherwise good movie.

I personally liked it better than 9 ball the movie..talk about cheesy acting

Watched both, enjoyed both but by way of full disclosure I enjoy pool so much that it would have to be real, REAL, REAL bad before I would not find something to enjoy.

I was surprised by Jennifer Baretta in 9 ball as she did not do too bad in terms of acting but I found the whole let's make this an infomertial for the APA a little disquieting. I loved the stiff little presentation by the young lady presenting the lucasi cue seemed to sum it all up.
