Pencils with the original name of the place...officially added to the Chicago Billiard Museum collection:cool:

The " 2 letter 5 number " phone number system ( aka 2L-5N) began in 1930 and ended in the 60's, being slowly phased out over the next few years. This dates the pencils during the 2L-5N timeframe.

Found the box of permission slips, signed by a parent to allow minors into the hall:cool:

Some of those tables look like they are growing out of the concrete, must be from being wet mopped every night for 80 years or so :)
Excellent pictures, and while it is sad that such a historic place is closing, I can only hope that all the tables end up in the homes of enthusiasts where they can be appreciated, and not forgotten in a storage unit somewhere.

Any 10' Anniversarys?

Nope.
Which is actually part of the reason why these tables are so cool.
(They all pre-date the gold crowns and anniversaries, are between 80 and 100 years old and were actually played on in a public room for over 70 years)
The stories they could tell.

I have a 10' Arcade, would like to have 10 more

This is the kind of Pool Room that causes men to never leave town.

My early Pool Room had 10' Centennials for Snooker & Golf,& a few Anniversary's & some Sport Kings.

How do they play?

If they are anything like the 1880's BBC tables at my local Elk's Club, then the answer is, "Better than you'd expect!"

Pockets are generally looser than today's tables. Properly set up the tables won't give you any surprises...assuming you are using a set of balls made sometime in the last few decades. And then there is the wonderful swishing sound of the leather-webbed pockets.

If I had but one word to describe the table, it would be "softer".

anyone know

of any halls similar to this anywhere in America that are still open...
that we can get on our 'bucket list' before they close?

This one must have been open at least until the last couple decades,
as I don't see any spitoons...... and a VHS tape (wonder if there is a
good match on that one)...

Too cool!! Thanks Jam.
