I was just wondering how many there are,an how the rooms are set up.
Is there alot of action these days..doesn't have to be big money..just thought it would be interesting to hear about
the Portland area.thanks.

Classics on 122nd & Powell GC's and some diamonds. 12' snooker table. Action is here.

Rialtos on SW 4th & Washington downtown. 10 or so GC
Touches on NW 14th & glisan 6 Brunswick 9" w/leather pockets
Sam's on NE Hancock and 41st. 15 or so GC's

There is stuff on the west side, but I don't really venture over the west hills much.

Back in the day (i.e., around 2000-2003), the Silver Dollar on the corner of NW 21st. and Glisan had a lot of bar table competition. I never played for money but I'm sure others there did. I don't know what it's like anymore; I haven't been in it for almost 10 years... I just wanna contribute. :)

Regarding Touche`s: I moved to PDX from North Carolina and after I closed my NC bank account I went to Touche`s. Without realizing it, I used my old bank card to pay and it was accepted. After a few weeks of not getting the check (that closed my account) from the bank I called them up and they said that i had used the card and that kept my account open.

I asked, "well, where did I used the card?"
The woman answered in a disapproving voice, "a place called 'Touches'". Clearly she thought "touches" was some kind of strip club.
I thought for a moment and realized what she was talking about and said "OOOH, Touche`s... it's a poolroom."

She didn't sound like she believed me but closed my account nonetheless.

...just stay away from 'The Crab Shack'.

dld

That's not the one out Route 30 near Sauvie Island, is it? I played in a 8-ball tournament there (the strip joint on 30) once. My friends asked me if I wanted to go to a tournament, they did not say anything about the venue. Needless to say, I was distracted.

You are thinking of casa de diablo, Portland 1st and only vegan strip club.
The crab shack is a bar on 99 near PCC slyvania.

I happen to be in Portland until tomorrow, staying at the Marriot on SW Broadway, a couple of blocks from Rialto.
I hope to get over there tonight

Table 3 at Rialtos is my favorite. Wish I was in town, I would have been happy to shoot with you.

If either of you want to hit some around tonight or tomorrow, lemme know and we'll get together.

There are a few random spots to find action, but it's not always stable from what I hear. Classic's may be the one place where there's a good chance to find somebody hanging around..

Edit: Just noticed you said that you were out of town, Patrick.

Portland may never be the same.
There will be a shortage of Jack Daniels.

This is a town with a high number of strip joints, bars and microbreweries. We know how to drink. ;) About the only thing I've seen a bar run out of has been Jameson, I think, and that may have been because they forgot to re-up.

I think Sam's Billiards still has happy hour tables, too, $2/hr from 4-7 or something. Not sure about Rialto's rates, though they do offer a "Groupon Now" deal of $10 for $20 or something.

Could always make your way to Salem @ The Cue Ball once in awhile. Come in on a Day when Carlos (Especially him) or Rossi is there and you will find a lot of action, or if you care to dwell into Golf, there is always a Golf game going.

Any places in Vancouver to play I'm here for a few day I might drive over to Portland....

Ahh ok. I doubt we know each other, I've taken a few years off. Getting back into the mix now. Yeah if you're not a player you might as well hand your money to them, they are Wolves in sheep's clothing no doubt.

You can check out Hollywood Bowl, its off of Morrison St.

you are only about 3 miles from the place, I havent been there in 10 years, but they had a great selection of games going on all the time, they had, 13 tables and 1 large snooker table. Also, if you are with a group or family, others can be playing on the 48 or so lanes they have to bowl on.

Also, to see some action every once in a while, cruise out interstate ave, or go down I-5 toward vancouver and get off on the Lombard Ave exit, the 2nd lombard exit, it is a 20 mph loop, if its been raining go a little slow off the exit, anyway off the exit to the first main light and that is Interstate Ave, take a left and go up Interstate about 1 mile and on the right hand side is The Nitehawk Bar, pool, gambling, Glen Atwell and I used to shoot all the time there, he is still in that area, food is good and used to have some great drink specials (Bloody Mary was the BOMB!!!). And once again, if u just want to get a family together, you can continue up Interstate Avenue and about 1 mile further up Interstate going the same direction, you will see the Bowling Alley on the Right side, you can park right on the sidewalk, get out, walk up 30 steps of stair and then you in. They have 6 or 8 tables in this place and alleys on both sides of the pool tables, you are in a sunken perfect venue to watch a pool game being played.

Anyway, hope this might help!!

There was a place called the "Bottoms Up Club" but that was probably ten or more years ago. I cannot confirm or deny ever being there. ;)

The bowling alley on Morrison was completely redone a few years ago and now has one table. I forgot about the nighthawk. I hear that is where bobby Zack hangs out, although I use to see him at Rialtos a bit, but not playing pool, just the poker machines. I'm sure Glenn goes to the nighthawk, but I generally see him at classics.

PDX is tuned into the Portland area scene...My "honorary nephew" Matt H.
and I took a trip to Portland some time back to check out Rialto prior to a tournament they were going to put on. Nice place full of the downtown crowd during the afternoon. Good food, nice Gold Crowns. But no action, and nobody there who could match up with Matt. We played there a bit...then Matt told me of Classics. We arrived at Classics only to have Mr. Atwell pull in the lot right after us. Thoroughly enjoyed the play between Matt & Glenn...they played two races for a hundy, ended up splitting the races and the table fee.

Matt has since become married with a child & a job...so he's not quite as in tune today as he was then. Still a darned good player though.

Ahh, The Columbus day storm...everybody who was here remembers it. Now it's a way to tell if somebody is a newcomer to Oregon or not. You just say; remember the Columbus Day Storm? No need to mention the year.

I'm gald to hear Matt still plays here an there,I aways thought he was a nice young man too.
These days I hear its Aaron,Lucus,an Baker that are sporty...an a few others.its been awhile since I've been in the cue ball,I'll have to come in some time an watch some golf..last time I was there was with a friend for a couple hours, can't beat three dollars an hour or five an hour for two to play.
As for the storm..I was a kid living in the tri-citys..yeah it was a good one.
