Very sad to say Dante Rakin has passed. He was an great player and even a more amazing father to his five kids that he raised by himself. He leaves behind Michelle,Mary, Redante, Daniel and Regina. My thoughts and prayers go out to their family. Dante was a very warm and happy guy with a big heart. I hope he is in heaven with his beautiful wife that left them all too soon. RIP Dante... May you get all the rolls that you deserve :sorry:

Thank you for the post, Runout.

I remember seeing, but never formally meeting, Mr. Dante Rakin at one of the ACUI national collegiate championships.
He was there supporting his children. Mary, some of us may know, is one heck of a player.
The boys, Daniel and Redante, both play superbly as well.
I can easily extrapolate that Dad had a significant hand in his childrens' pool-playing success.

Rest in peace, to a father who supported the game of pool!

Rumor has it thst they would play mini tournaments to decide who would do what chores.

Very sad news. condolences to the family and entire pool community.

RIP Dante.

Wow, my thoughts go out to the Rakin family.

I played him once and ended up donating a few 20's to his bankroll... He was a sharp player, and his daughter Mary was awfully nice the one time I happened to meet her. Maybe some people here will be able to share some of their good memories.

Best, Ian

He will be sorely missed on the Northern California pool scene. He had that true filipino spirit for life and for pool. What a warm hearted man he was and so proud of all his kids. RIP my friend. :(

RIP Dante Rakin

I met Dante once at the 2013 USBAR. TABLE in Reno.

He came up and introduced himself - we had a nice chat. His family all became accomplished pool players.

He actually came up to thank me for the pool activities we do - I was the one that felt honored to meet him. His kids were legendary.

I was surprised to see how short he was - but that worked real well for his daughters.

RIP Mr. Rakin. You did a great job in raising your kids and nurturing them into responsible adults. And that play a mean game of pool.

The world of pool needs many more like you.

Mary Rakin

Mary Rakin just won the BCA Women's Grand Master's Singles this week. She said right after her final match that the win meant a lot to her because her dad always dreamed of her winning it one day!

And the chores challenge is a fact. She and Regina were talking about it the day before the finals. Lots of funny stories!! Their father had competition built into everything they did pool related!
