I just got back from Hawaii last night. I had a great time at Hawaiian Brian's and got to play in two tournaments as a B player (5th on Tuesday of last week, and 4th on Sunday.)
Hawaiian Brian's changed since I was there last year. They have walled in the back section and added a bar. This is where the tournaments are held and you have to be 21 to enter.
I saw AZ'ers Dave Sucher (cuebuilder) and Kurt (AZ name?.) Dave had just finished a cue for Kurt when I was there. The cue looked and played really nice, Dave's cues just keep getting better. Dave also made a cue for Dean Kipi (State Champion) and it looked really nice as well. Dean is a great guy and a fantastic player.
It was great to see everyone, but I was sorry I did not get to see Alton (cuecaps.) They said he hasn't been to H.B.'s for a while.
There was plenty of action offered after the tournament on Tuesday night, but there was a band and it was open mic night. I ended up playing with the band the rest of the night.
Thanks again to everyone at H.B.'s who helped make my vacation even better (why go to a beach when you can play pool?) And thanks to Dave & Peggy for a great meal at Sugoi. Good luck with your new venture!
