Hi everybody, I'll be in Tampa, FL next week. Can anybody recommend any good pool-playing locations? Perhaps a cheap week-night tournament?

Come back to Miami and get off the stall you Road Player. :D

If your in Tampa...there was just a thread here recently that just listed most of the good pool rooms in Tampa area.

Family Billiards in Clearwater
The Flamingo in St Pete
Strokers in Palm Harbor

dont go to planet nineball unless you want to watch midget tossing and line dancing.

Man that's a great question. I have lived in Tampa for over 30 years, and I don't know. I always went to Baker's, and then Planet 9 ball. Since both went belly up last year I am looking for a good room. I mostly play at home, but I would always go to a room a few times a month. Fatso's on Busch Blvd, just east of I275 comes to mind, but I haven't been there in a while. If you are at the beach I do like Stix on St. Pete Beach across from the Tradewinds.

stroker's info

Strokers in Palm Harbor has a website "www.mystrokers.com"
There is some basic info on the Monday night and Wednesday night mini tournaments. Not expensive buy-ins at all. I don't know about other rooms in the area but some previous posters have passed along info. Also try the search facility on AZBilliards. As previously noted there have been some other recent threads on the same topic.

It is a nice place, but the tables are Olio Gold Crown knock offs. I am not a huge fan of these tables. I have a gold crown at the house, and I am pretty picky when it comes to the equipment. The pool room scene in Tampa sucks right now. I think you are probobly better off on the other side of the bay.

Bump. I'm sure there are more members from that area that can give me some good intel.

Unless you are already a very accomplished player, do yourself a favor and take advantage of getting a pool lesson from Tony Crosby while in Tampa. Then let me know how the lesson went. :)

Hammerheads is another one I remember...

Where does he play in Tampa? Not that I want to play him, just that it seems like wherever he plays is probably the place to be.

There was a room I went to in Clearwater the last time I was on vacation, and I wish I could remember the name of it. Great people and a great place. They had some 8ft, 9ft, and barboxes, but the full bar and barboxes were separated from the big tables. I just remember that the entrance to the place had double oak doors with oval glass in them which I thought gave the place a nice touch.

I use to go in there when it first opened as Stax Billiards. John Stackhouse(pretty good shortstop at one time) opened it. Those tables were new and falling apart right from the start. Johnnyt

The Flamingo is just a bar with one older 9' table...not a pool room.

It actually has a few more barboxes on the other side of the room as well. I only bring up that one because some AZB guys hang there and there is action there on an irregular basis. A lil one on one tournament for that no gambling Andrew Manning.

A lot of money has been won and lost on that table over the years. Johnnyt

Hammerheads has Diamond tables and is the nicest room around there. If you make it to Orlando there is action at Jimmys Billiards.
