I was talking in terms of spectatorship, and making coin at tourneys. Bringing in proverbial bacon. Like, if it's streamed to a large audience, people love fapping over their favorite players, and organizers (especially the MR hubbub love giving a nickname, however dumb sounding, to make a player into a brand).
I have no qualm wearing a jersey if it's given to me... I wouldn't ever pay out of my own pocket for one...

Agree, I wear a black polo shirt unless told otherwise.
I have 'qualms', huge one's in fact. Having all the players wearing what would amount to a 'uniform' is bad policy. I like MR in general but all their players wearing these goofy shirts looks ridiculous. Probably another Emily idea like those horrid BLACK ball sets.

Alternative is a dress code, which I have 'qualms' with. Especially when you can meet it word for word, but an organizer still has the liberty to say, 'wear something else' - that is but the smallest 'qualm' of an enormous list I am far too lazy to write out.
I don't think jerseys are such a bad idea when it comes to building a brand, whether it's a bigger umbrella like MR, or a smaller brand like the tournament itself. Let alone the potential for generating revenue through sponsors etc.
MR are linked with Onboard, which is a buddy of one of their stalwarts, there's money for them to be made off these jerseys. The price difference between what a company like Onboard sell jerseys for, and the actuality of manufacturing costs... BIG. But yeah, you're right, MR higher ups for sure have deals, plans and numbers to crunch.

Like I said, I agree with you about a polo being enough. Tournament gave me a nice one, I would wear it.

This isn't a team sport. PGATour doesn't require all its players to look like robots, neither does pro tennis. Only bowling afaik has shirts that look as lame. I don't think its required its just that bowlers have always looked goofy. ;) If MR or any other outfit thinks a standardized shirt is needed for 'brand recognition' then they're in trouble. This simple poll is a fairly clear indication of how people feel about them. At least i'll get a laugh out of them as tonite's league night and i always laugh when i see 300lbs of person trying to wear spandex StarTrek uniform. ;)

Did i say i was playing?? No, didn't think so. I haven't played league pool since '04. I'll be on a real pool table while all the spandex crowd plays in the kiddie pool. WTF is your problem anyway??

I have a fun hustlin Shirts . I Actually have a jacket that fits really well I wear lol but I agree with you. I can’t believe they’ve been selling that stuff for what? 20 years . .. that’s crazy.
I always wear Hustlin shirts, hoodies etc to backgammon tourneys and when we go to the parks to play BG. Hiding in plain sight 😉. The BG players like that stuff too. Tony has great stuff🫡🫡

Bowlers are 100% goofy (including myself to a lesser degree here) and being over the top is a character thing (see: Kyle Troup). Collegiate team unis are much better though (also an honor to rep your school).

As far as dress code is concerned, if you're running a major tournament you have to have a dress code. Some random dude showing up in holy cargo shorts, sandals, and a snotty shirt reflects poorly on your organization and the sport as a whole. Doesn't need to be strict, but you can't just request people dress "reasonably" because that's entirely subjective. No different from the "dress for your day" BS some companies do...

I like the old-school button-up square bottom bowling shirts. They look WAY better than these spandex sausage tubes. I think these look cool and are really comfortable: https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-e&q=cool+bowling+shirts#pvs=0

Yes, and this attire is a constant reminder that pro pool players, in terms of visibility, prestige, and marketability are far more like bowlers than tennis players or golfers. Comfort is a non-issue, The world's straightest shooters, snooker pros, play in tuxedos, and it does not slow them down one iota.

Some of the elite pro pool players used to dress for success. Now, it seems, they are often not permitted to do so.

in the midsession in the recent northern ireland open they showed a reel of snooker pros answering questions, one of them was about the dress code. seems most of them wanted to do away with the waistcoat and bowtie. some mentioned the pool style with a polo shirt.

i have no opinion in the matter. i wouldn't be comfortable in the formal attire personally. i can count the number of times i've worn a tie

I think for league players or exhibition events like mcup the loud shirts are cool, the common theme being team events.

For top level professional events I’m all for proper dress. Maybe not full on tux In every event but still proper dress is best, like snooker.

Sigel told me he never lost a tuxedo tournament, he was joking of course, but he did say he loved them and being in a tux made him feel good and play better. Which I can’t disagree with him.

For gamblers and action pool, anything goes. Myself I like to play barefoot.

That‘s my take on the Pool player dress code. league players would look silly in tuxedos as would the gamblers. The pros in shorts and barefoot would be bad as well.

Fatboy,,,,,,,,,, not a fashionista 😅😅

I really liked our high collar 1/4 zip jerseys. They breathe and fit really well: loose fit on all but 2 of our bowling balls -- er, bowlers...
Would definitely want slimmer fit at the table if i'm playing tournaments, but i'm also not a big dude.

Now my cycling buddies that wear lycra road jerseys when they're as big around as 2 of me...that's a different story entirely...
