pool, poker and pain reality show?

The guy was at the US Open promoting it. He says he has 12 pool players signed on and is gung-ho about it. The format is pool>poker>fighting. I was going to pick up a flyer but I was already carrying a camera bag and cue case :)

It's not a bad idea if done right... I'd watch it for sure :)

I think ARM9Baller knows a bit more about this... I forget the gentleman's name that is putting it on but he is from Miami as far as I know.

From what I understand you play a set of 9 or 10 ball, then a heads up poker game and the tie breaker is an MMA style fight.

I have had just about everyone I know that hears about PPP come to me and try to prod me into getting involved in some way but I'm not sure that I'm good enough at any of the single events to make a go. I'm a B level pool player, a decent poker player and a former amateur full contact fighter.

I would definitely be interested in seeing some of the matches so any more info anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

I can't help much but the guys name is Blair Thein. I believe it's R. Abbinks man. Good idea for a show tho. I'd watch it also....

i say gl to him!

With that kind of gimmick, the show will be completely fake.

From what I understand about this guy Blair I would bet a lot of green that there'll be nothing fake about it.

I've spoke w/him about it. Seems pretty cool format(pool, poker,MMA) and you would be surprised how many of us pool players can represent well in all 3 sports. Not me of course, cause I don't wan't to MMA against anyone.LOL but i would love to watch it. Maybe live stream might be the way to go..... oh well see what happens..

regards,

It's gonna happen and it wont be fake...There is already a couple pros on the list...It wont be long now....He is also doin the "Hustle Bus" where he take a bus(half men/women) around gamblin high stakes action....
He has some good ideas laid out and they are not far off.....

Be prepared, the sport of pool is fixin to get interesting........

OK slam away, and most of you know me as non-confrontational, but this sounds stupid...just what pool needs.....another reassurance to the public that pool and fighting go together. I'm sure all the room owners out there love this one. I can hear the parents now....OH NO you aren't going to the pool room, all they do there is gamble and fight!

I realize it's not the intent of the promoters to put the game in a bad light, but why fighting?...because I guess the guy setting it up is a fighter? why couldn't he have been anything else but a fighter?! This is NOT a promoter trying to help the game like say....Billy Incardona, or Barry Berhman...this is a guy trying to make money on popular things like poker, fighting, and I guess pool his girlfriends profession?. Why not....

ANYTHING but violence....seems like a pay per view event for college guys to me.

Gerry< won't be watching.

My thoughts exactly.

gotta agree with ya on this. Any of the players i'd like to see, are not the kinda guys i'd like to see fight.

Except for maybe Grady. i'd pay to see that.

I was put in contact with Blair over a year ago by a friend of his about participation on this show. After talking to Blair on the phone he sounded like a carbon copy of Kevin Trudeau. Fast talker with huge plans. He could not/would not give a starting date of PPP.

Asking around the MMA world, nobody worth a lick has ever heard of him. Blair also states that he will be fighting Dennis Hatch in Las Vegas, lol. I don't see how the Nevada State Athletic Comission would allow this, as Blair weighs 170 pounds and Hatch weighs 220+.

To my understanding, Blair THein is the concept man behind this. Its his idea. NYC player Jerry Tarantola is the man prmoting / producing the show.

If I remember correctly, the way it would work is that two players square off in a pool match. When it was over, they locked horns in a heads up poker game. If the results were split (pool to one player; poker to the other) the deciding factor would be a fight.

Several of the names that I have heard on several occassions mentioned as Pros that have signed on: Dennis Hatch, Frankie Hernandez, and Joey Korsiak.

Now call me crazy. I know Joey K is a helluva pool player. And he might even pretty good at cards for all I know. But if I had to bet, I'd bet the farm on a fight between him Hatch OR Frankie. I dunno. I think the concept is a little silly if you ask me.

I did not know that. I gotta get out more! :D

The poker and the pool part is cool, but the FIGHTING is what is unappealing to me. Does Joey K. think he can get in the ring with a player like Dennis Hatch and have a chance to come out ahead? I love Joey K., but man, that's not going to be pretty.

JAM

This idea as I heard it started originally as playing a set of nineball and then immediately getting into the ring and doing a MMA fight. There is nothing fake about the fighting as far as I know. I have known Blair for a long time and there is nothing fake about the guy. He is not someone I would like to ever have to fight thats for sure. I know that Dennis Hatch has golden gloves experience but I still like Blair over Dennis in an MMA match. The way I figured it, Dennis would have to connect with a nice punch right away, because Blair was going to take the fight to the ground and then Dennis would either get choked out or be forced to submit when Blair got him into a position where it was either submit or get your arm snapped or shoulder dislocated. Blair may only be 170lbs but trust me, thats 170 lbs of muscle and NO giveup. I know I personally felt really assured that nothing bad was happening to me or my friends when Blair was in the room lol.

Blair added poker to the idea and its something that is making this even more intriguing and perhaps palatable for general consumption by something like a men's oriented cable channel like Spike.

This is legit and well some may say that it denigrates pool, I think it will sell. I know that if they announced that it was going to be aired, the next words out of my mouth would be "What day and What time?" I want to see this. Maybe its the voyeur in me, maybe its the old "Train wreck that you can't look away" but I think people will watch. The same people who say this is bad, will always look at car accidents when they finally get to the part of the traffic jam where its right next to them. Its human nature to watch this kind of stuff.

Btw...Blair plays pretty damn good too. Shortstop speed +/- imo.

The thing with the whole 'Pain' part of this show is that I think it sort of takes pool away from the direction it wants to go. While I think Kevin Trudeau is a scumbag who ultimately ripped people off, at least what he tried to do (or could have done) was make an attempt to legitimaze the game and take it to a higher level.

I think something like this will just bastardize the game in the eyes of the general public even more.
