Do cue makers play pool? And at what speed?
I know Skip is close to A speed.
Paul Fannelli is like a B+.
How about the other cue makers.

Although I am sure not today, Billy Stroud may have been the best. Years ago he was from what I saw, just under the top players and could stay with anybody at a given time. Today Dennis Searing would be one the best players if he feels like playing. He tends to not play for periods of time.

Or you could go with a person who is a pool player first, and a cuemaker second...... Shawn Putnam comes to mind.

I don't know, Mike Gulyassy may have something to say about that ;)

Mike Sigel was a cuemaker, and he played pretty sporty. Also, Bobby Hunter.

Balabushka, Gus S., Harvey Martin, Petersen and Palmer.

Skip has won the Crown tournament several times at the A spot.

Ohman and Searing are both really good florida players/CM's.

Shawn Putnam would be the best playing American Cuemaker. He is only a part-time cuemaker though.

His work is improving steadily by the way. One of his last ones I hit balls with and was very impressed with the playability.

The best player and full time cuemaker that I can think of is Bobby Hunter. He has been making cues for many years and they are great playing/looking cues. Schmidt was using one in the Open. Bobby is also a current pro player. Hard to beat combination.

Anyone that would doubt the playing speed of Dennis Searing should look on AZ's player finder to see the damage he did in 2000 in 2 tournaments. Florida Tour Stop #3 he beat Charlie Williams, Howard Vickery, Mario Cruz, John DiToro, Richard Broumpton, Toby Sweet, just to name a few. Then at Florida Tour Stop #4 he put Corey Deuel in the losers box, beat Santos Sambajon, Tomoki Mekari (one of Japans best), Troy Frank, Jim Wales, Hunter Lombardo, and sat at King of the Hill and beat Corey again in the race to 13 final 13-8. He doesn't play much because of his dedication to the perfect cues he makes but his playing ability helps him design and build the best hitting cue I ever wrapped a paw around. Give Dennis two months away from building cues and nothing but table time to worry about, there would not be a tournament he wouldn't be favored to finish in the top ten.But that will never happen. Dennis is in heaven in his shop and this is where he belongs. As his friend, I wish I could see him play more as he is a joy to watch. Watching him move the cueball is like listening to a beautiful symphony. The game flows so effortlessly. I was with Dennis on the west coast of Florida having dinner with Ray Martin (99 Critical Shots of Pool) and CM Lee when Ray Martin pulled me aside and said pointing to Dennis, " That man has the best cueball control of anyone I have ever played with. " That , to me, was the best complement I have ever heard a champion pool player give another player.

i own a pool hall, build a few custom cues a year( maybe 20) as a hobbie, and have been playing for about 15 years now. very low level A player. IMO bobby hunter is probably the best player/cue maker i've met.does anybody know if billy teeter in the bay area is still playin ? he used to make cues and play pretty sporty. i took tony chohan to his place years ago and got a pretty good one hole game. them were good days !!
