Pool sucks, because of you A-holes!!

I feel your pain/disgust and I lived many years in the Walworth/Genoa city area and visit most every summer/family/cousins. Pool is what it is, but it's seemingly a sport that must be created from the top down, why? Ya need a carrot it seems in our game to get anywhere. Yeah all successfully sports begin in youth, but our game many be thee.... one an only that shouldn't evolve this way. I've not thought about that being what we need to become a success, but I think I'm wrong....and the Badger rant does strike a cord from this keyboard. Many of us have ranted/percolated our emotions to the surface and gotten no-where....but we all came from the, sperm of the moment so ta speak. Where we go is up to us, and what drives us is KEY. This emotional tiller will steer you if you keep at it, and will Test You, and from that will tell You if you really care. If not, at least you got it off your chest. I've supported 3 tours, and been in the BCA office for a couple years....they are all nearly identical animals/mindsets....what's in it for me????

Indeed, the whats in it for me attitude is what is and has destroyed the industry. I my opinion we haven't focused on the very thing that keeps this industry going. With all of our thoughts, products, services and intentions if we figured out easier ways for Pool Room owners to bring in people that would a very good start.

The overwhelming evidence is that the rooms are closing and the wholesalers are falling by the wayside one at a time.

One would think that its time that we sat back and realized that in order to survive we need each other.

Stop being so negative, teach a kid the real rules, be classy. What you put out is what you will receive. I don't care what your politics are or what cue you play with, just teach a kid how to love the game, a bar cue is fine. What is wrong with all you people who just *****, apparently you have to much expendable income or not enuff. If you take offense to this post you are part of the reason pool is not more popular and quite honestly don't contact me, I have no desire to sell you a damn thing. It's not about the money, I love pool and yes I suck at it. Enuff said!!!

Pot, meet kettle.

Please elaborate this post makes no sense. Respectfully Tom

Coming on the Internet and criticizing people and calling them names while decrying negativity is the epitome of the pot calling the kettle black.

Hey Shooter08,chill dude. I totally agree about getting younger players. I live in Tulsa, Ok. and this was at one time a major pool hotbed. With the coming of casinos, smoking laws AND no place for under21's to play, pool has all but died here. Still some league play but not much. Pool has a -choose adjective- struggle to get new players into the game. I applaud your efforts and wish you luck.

Pot, meet kettle.

Funny, then I see me underneath!

But to the point, I think what you read here is generally a far more unfiltered glimpse into each person's persona than what you'd get in person.

If you can't speak freely amongst your azbros...well hell, I don't want no azbros!

And anyway, that's why I always say: I play pool at home. There's only one a-hole in that pool room and he's got good beers. Great tunes too.

Thanks for all your input on how not to grow the game. On e again the AZ band wack proves that the majority thinks they are better than the rest. I'll go back to my corner now and let consumers seem me out, I won't lost anymore because it is useless. THx for your time ruining the game for the average person, maybe you are more worthy.

I thought we were assholes, not wacks.

Isn't that an improvement?

Are we in Wisconsin the only state that has successful leagues going on? If I'm wrong I stand corrected

What do most pool-related businesses do for pool?

I like playing APA. I'm also not stoned or drunk. Then again, i also just woke up.

Leagues are great but without a next generation of players this game is toast, at least in the U.S. Something along the lines of FirstTee where kids would get table-time, cue and instruction is sorely needed. In Tulsa there are less than five people under the age of 21 that can draw their ball. I NEVER thought i'd make that statement but it's true. If you can't get a nation of fat, lazy, video game playing, cellphone addicted kids off their ass and onto a table, end of story. Cue up the fat lady if it gets much worse.

I think a lot of adults and parents would put something like pool on that same list as well, as a meaningless sedentary waste of time thing to do.

I see a lot of kids on skate boards, playing basketball and other kinds of outdoor activities. Pool is by no way going to solve health conditions or ambitions of kids. Many adults I would think would believe quite the opposite.

Take a poll on here, I bet most who play you will find took up the game in their late teens or later, sometimes much later. I think to grow the game you have to go after the real available customers. The rest like getting pool in schools and so on is just a pipe dream. You have to live in the real world.

I agree with the age-group deal but something has to happen( a new,GOOD pool movie?) to put the game in front of new players. Average age is almost as high as baseball and drag-racing, both of which have trouble with younger crowds. A LOT of great players started in gamerooms and rec centers and were near roadplayer level by 17 or 18. These places no longer exist and the game is hurting big time because of it. I'm glad this is being discussed because pool is nearly on life-support in this country.

Not that long ago I was under 21, and under 18... And back then it didn't feel like pool sucks.

It felt like it didn't exist.

I had never heard of a league, tournament or even casual hang-out I could play in.

Had to be with an adult at the Brunswick bowling alley to get a table.

I'd play the occasional game in someone's basement but everyone sucked at the game (and I thought that before I learned to draw a ball 2 inches!)

Coaching for pool??? It never crossed my mind as something that exists until I found azb in my 20s.

I think if there had been a place I could hang out with my friends and play pool CHEAP since we were middle school age, we would have!

Also if there was a high school pocket billiards team I woulda been all over that! And so would have a lot of other kids who grew up with a table in their basement but never learned to play... Cause there was no point!

And the biggest thing would have helped, in my opinion, is if we knew we could potentially earn a college scholarship playing pool. And this would get parents on board as well! Without this, we might as well be playing kickball. Every other extra curricular activity available in high school could have done this for us. Until pool can help with college, there is no reason for kids to spend time on it instead of golf, chess, photography, radio, badminton, newspaper club... Yea.

I don't understand why it's so "necessary" for other people to play? You either enjoy the game or you dont! I could give a rat's @%% if another human played or not, I'm gonna keep playing.

I've become so jaded I honestly don't even know if you are being honest. Let's make a difference, I will or another party should start a paypal accoun. We can donate to to get cues and tables into the hands of kids. Can someone please recommend something. Those of us who have a couple extra bucks will support it I'm sure if the money is actually going to the cause and not cost of doing business (ie Profit).

I have a PayPal account, feel free to fund it. I promise to only use it for pool. :grin-square:

The annual BCA Jr. Nationals did exactly this. I did this for two years in/office. I would contact all the BCA mfg. and ask them for donations. I got cues/scuffers and on and on from the BCA members and would give them away at the National Event, boy was that fun, and very difficult at times, some complained they should of gotten the better cue. But extracting and tracking down the right person at each mfg. location took all of my time, but was worth it. The Jr. Program was in the hands of Laura Smith for years and now Sami Depp Vidal is in charge. Contact the BEF billiard education foundation and they will gladly work with you getting the product to the kids. Make sure once your efforts are in place, that the other end will guarantee follow thru. I got Many Cues and no one ever checked what came in and what went out.
