Pool table covers

I wanted to know if people cover their pool tables? It is a nightly event and sometimes a pain. I know the main purpose is to keep dust off of it. Any comments appreciated.
 
i cover mine, mainly because i have cats. I have friends who don't cover theirs and i can see a dirtiness to the table but I'm sure that depends on where your table is (basement, living room, garage, etc.)
 
I always covered mine for 40 yrs, it's gone now. :frown: We always cover the two tables at our Billiard Club. It's a good habit. JMO
 
I keep mine covered, and based on how fast dust seems to gather on the rest of the furniture in the house, I really think it is a good idea. I prefer the rectangular (non-fitted) type of table cover, that just sorta drapes over the edges of the table, because I think it is easier to fold up and set aside. Sorta like the difference between folding a flat sheet, and a fitted sheet.
 
I'm up and down the stairs at least a dozen times a day to shoot a little or a lot, all depending on how bad/good I'm shooting. Sometimes I'm only down there for 5-10 minutes, trying something I read on AZB or in a book. If I had to uncover the table every time, then cover it up again when I was done, I probably wouldn't bother to go down at all.

I do give the table a light brushing every day or so, and I vacuum it once every week or so, followed by a light washing with a damp polyester dish towel. Looks almost like new when I'm done.

I know this may not be ideal, but my cloth looks 90% better than what you typically see in a commercial room after a few months of constant (uncovered) play. When it finally goes (maybe another 8 years or so), I get to spend a couple hundred dollars on brand new cloth. There are worse things in the world to spend my money on.
 
I agree with sloppy. My table looks great and I never cover it. Covering after each time you play is just going to discourage you from wanting to practice.

I am making a cover for my table Its cheaper than buying one, I use a cover all the time, so dust, and dirt stays off the new cloth. I am putting appliques of pool balls on it. Will post pics when done. I am using very soft Vinyl and my home machine, Double stitching on all the seams. When you make your own cover you can customize it!

I have a cover for mine but only used it one time.... When I was standing on the table installing the light.

My cloth looks great, and I enjoy being able to hit a shot or two on a whim.
 
I cover mine every night for two reasons. One is my animals, for some reason, they love to hop up on my table. Two is because my table doubles as a laundry folding station. As someone else said, it's a good habit!
 
Use it only when I'm away for a long time. Otherwise I enjoy the open table.
 
My room gets lots of natural light, so I keep it covered to keep the cloth from fading. It looks like new after three years.

On a home table, if you play on it virtually every day, and you don't have pets that might get up on it, and you don't have direct sunlight from windows shining on it during the daytime and fading the cloth, I see no reason to cover it up.

A helpful key to make it alot easier and quicker to fold it up when uncovering your table, or unfolding it when puting it back on your table - fold it up inside-out on the top of the table. Then you when you are unfolding it back on the table, you just simply reverse the process. This makes it very easy and quick for one person to fold it up when uncovering the table, or unfolding it back on the table, in less than 60 seconds!
 
I always do. 3 different homes and there is always something getting on the table if it's not covered. One time a glass of water got knocked off the back of the couch over night "stupid cat" The water went right through the floor into the basement and right into the middle of the table. I have one of those thick fitted vinyl covers so it was okay, but it took me a while to figure out what had happened LOL "the basement ceiling is unfinished"

The table in the waiting room of my office is only covered when I know a bunch of Rug Rats are going to be in or when I let other clinicans use the waiting room for presentations over the weekend.

My table at home is covered on a nightly/daily basis.
I have 3 boys (9, 7 & 4) plus a German Shepherd puppy.
When covered it makes for an excellent laundry folding & storage table.

I cover my table every day. It is in an unfinished basement, and my girls have a playroom above where the table is located. Almost every day I find little pieces of saw dust that have accumulated on the cover from the ceiling. I have cleaned everything up there I can see, but somehow it still falls down.

The above post of mine was from 2014. Today, 2018, I still leave it uncovered. I also make it a rule not to put any crap on it, because I want to be able to hit a ball at any time, on a whim. Note, I'm single, no pets, and its in finished space. So some of the reasons mentioned for using a cover don't apply to me:) My table is near windows, but I have not noticed any fading, or enough to bother me anyway. I had my cloth installed in 2012.

I always cover mine, even if I have to leave it for just a few minutes. (d a r n CATS!)

I would probably do it any way because I'm so anal about my equipment.

I've got a 9' Diamond and cover a have the folding of it down to a science, out of necessity of course.

Just like someone mentioned, you fold it inside out when you take it off and then just the reverse to unfold it. It actually folds into a neat rectangle and all the creases make it real flat. Any of you other Diamond owners use this method?

I have a Brunswick cover on both. It is made of heavy gauge, super durable vinyl and is 110% waterproof. I bought the first one for an insane deal off of an eBay auction.
Folding/unfolding/taking on & off can be a challenge, best done with a 2 man team, lol.
