Dr. Dave,

I always enjoy your posts and thank you for all you do. May I suggest another category to be covered for beginners? Pool Etiquette

Don't put drinks on the table
Don't stand in the line of sight of your opponent
Don't grab a stick that doesn't belong to you
Don't break your cue down unless you are forfeiting
There's some no such thing as "Bar rules"
etc.

This has been on "my list" for a long time. I think it's time to give it higher priority. Since it will be a nice follow-up to this video, I'll do it soon.

Catch you later,
Dave

And, don't mess around with Jim!

Great!

A couple other things that amateurs do:

slam the stick on the side of the table when they get angry (breaks the stick or puts dents in it)

never shoot with a stick that doesn't have a tip (puts cuts in the felt)

excessive hand chalk

for some...placing the chalk upside down on the rail

double hits and/or bad timing and continue to hit the ball anyway

standing too close to the table when the opponent is shooting

general sharking intentional or not

Good additions. I'll add them to my list.

Thanks,

Does anybody think I left out any important terms, techniques, or information (besides "pool etiquette," which has already been mentioned)? If so, what things would you have added to the video, given that the target audience is beginners? Also, are there things you think I should not have included?

Thanks,
Dave

Maybe you cover gambling or no gambling.

Inevitably, every pool player will be asked to gamble. Knowing when it is appropriate or not appropriate is important. Explain what posting up is and why it is important. Races and spots. The Orange Crush and the history of soda pop for the youngsters. :)

That would be a good dedicated video. I’ll add it my list. There are many other thing I want to do, but I’ll get to it eventually. In the meantime, I do have most gambling terms and phrased defined in my online glossary.

Thanks again for the ideas,
Dave
