Thought I would run something interesting past the Forum, last weekend our Recreation Center Hosted a Western Regional (BCA) Bowlers Congress event.

Entry Fee, was $275.00/Bowler

The had 105 Entries

That meant they too in a total of just under 29,000 BUCKS in Entree Fees.

Top Finisher after (2) Day of Bowling took home $2,500.00 First Price, and a total of 16 place were paid with the bottom person getting $400.00.

Competitors came from CA, CO, UT, NV, NM, and as far away a TX. for this event.

Are you adding more? I am waiting for the interesting part.

Thanks,

I'm confused... the title of the thread is "Pool Tournament pay-outs verses Pro Bowling Tournament pay-outs", which infers that you will be comparing the two things... where is the comparison?

$275 entry and first is $2500, with over 100 players. Does first seem a little low to anyone? I don't think I'd pay a $275 entry fee to win $2500, but maybe I'm looking at it wrong. :scratchhead:

OK, so only 15.23809 percent of the field was paid.....versus the customary 25% percent of the field in Pool Tournaments....was all the $28,875.00 in entry fees paid back to the Bowlers?

It's about 9% of the total purse. VERY LOW!!!

Yeah, something doesn't add up here. Also, Coco, are you sure this was a pro event, or was it maybe a regional amateur event of some sort?

I'd be surprised if pro bowlers would travel so far to take a shot at $2500.

Cuebacca <-- less interested in bowling that it sounds like right now. :)

Uh?

Bingo you get GREEN, you saw the point.

"I don't think I'd pay a $275 entry fee to win $2500, but maybe I'm looking at it wrong."

I do not know what The Recreation Center got for FEES, Per Game to Bowl. Don't Know hown many total Game were Bowled. But a lot of the Entre Fees when to cover that cost. But around Town the Rate is $2.25-$5.00/GAME to Bowl. Cost Bucks to Bowl.

Most Pro Bowlers like this 105, all have Day Jobs.

Where did you get this information.....??????

Where did you get this information?

I'm sorry, I still don't see the point. Are you saying that these payouts are good or bad in comparison to pool?

I guess you are asking where I got the info I posted in post #1. I live in the in the community where the event was held, it was told me by the Facility Manager, and several of the Bowlers.

It is no secret, just a few facts.

If you have not already done so, I can highly recommending watching the 2005 documentary about the Pro Bowling tour called "A League of Ordinary Gentlemen". A lot of very interesting parallels to the Pool, even down to the nominated bad-boy of the tour Pete Weber, who could easily pass for an Earl Strickland long-lost twin brother.

I think he is saying they suck sh@# compared to pool and no one could make a living playing tournaments like that but it was a pro event...

Just guessing that maybe they are playing for points that are valuable? These people may be playing for points to get in the good tournaments and getting robbed along the way.

105 bowlers at @$275 a pop with only $2,500 for first?????
What organization would sponsor such an event?

I searched all the Bowling orgs I could find and didn't find andy Western Regional Event in Arizona or neighboring states this past weekend.

Granted, this was not an professional search, just a Google search.

I don't doubt your post's info, it is just the details aren't easily backed up by an official BCA or USBA or even an amature league or Org.

It is still very far fetched that 105 bowlers would get together at $275 per and only have a 1st place of $2500 and only payout 16 finishers.

Hence the questions... sorry if it sounds like I don't believe you or your source, but those figures are very suspect.

And it would have answered my question you gave details that would include a news article or web source.

Don't know what event Coco would be talking about but it's definitely not a PBA pro tournament. Earnings for the top 20 PBA pro bowlers for 2008 are as follows:

1 Norm Duke 15 $176,855
2 Mika Koivuniemi 21 $159,580
3 Sean Rash 21 $151,500
4 Walter Ray Williams Jr 21 $144,220
5 Chris Barnes 21 $142,410
6 Wes Malott 18 $108,900
7 Patrick Allen 20 $107,680
8 Tommy Jones 21 $103,505
9 Michael Haugen Jr 14 $101,820
10 Mike Scroggins 21 $100,400
11 Mike Wolfe 21 $92,176
12 Steve Jaros 21 $89,575
13 Rhino Page 19 $84,811
14 Chris Loschetter 20 $84,776
15 Ryan Shafer 20 $78,810
16 Parker Bohn III 21 $76,550
17 Danny Wiseman 20 $65,300
18 Pete Weber 18 $64,700
19 Brad Angelo 17 $60,328
20 Robert Smith 18 $58,935

Parker Bohn III, listed at #16, has earned more than 2 million dollars since 1985. I know that Walter Ray Williams Jr. is probably close or even over 3 million. Not sure about how many others have reached the million dollar mark though. Just checked it, Walter Ray Williams Jr. is standing at 3.8million total earnings since 1980.

Don't cry for bowlers. Go look at pba.com and check out the sponsorship. Not just Bowling suppliers. Denny's etc. This equals real money. Now I'm sure it's still tough but when the top 20 with some endorsement $$$ can probably make a decent living.

Besides they get to eat for free on their birthdays!
