anyone have any information about a pool tourney in metropolis,il? i heard that there's going to be a tourn at the harrah's casino convention center. i havn't heard of any details though. if anyone could help me out with details it would be very appreciative. thanks

isnt that where Buddy Hall is from? or used to live? i recall a toiurnament there a few years ago, but i thought it went by the wayside.

Yes I'm from the kankakee area. I read in news event about the tournament but havn't seen any info since. I did here that all of the well known shooters had a yearly tourn down south years ago. thanks all.
Buddy still lives there and plays around the area, so does New York Blackie, who I believe lives with Buddy, they do have a weekly tourny at a place called Shooters. I believe Buddy goes there when he is in town. At least this is what I have been told from a friend who lives there.

I am from Paducah, Ky and lived there for 26 years. Buddy and I are good friends and used to play together several times a week. Blackie does live with Buddy and he is a real character!!!!!!! As far as a tourney in Metropolis, I havent heard anything about it. I moved to Louisville a few months ago so I am a little bit out of the loop. I will talk to the people in people and check it out. If I hear anything I will post it.
On a side note...a bar in metropolis named shooters has touneys every friday and saturday nights...pretty sweet tourneys too. I have played and cashed in many of them...pretty tough field for a local tournament.
Buddy put on the superman classic several years ago and it was a good tournament, however it was not at the Harahs convention center...it was at the Metropolis Convention Center. Occasional, shooters will host a Sports Against Cancer Tournament. Full fields of 64 and great calcutta...I havent played in one of those in several years...last time I played I finished 4th or
5th...bobby pickle put me in the losers bracket and eddie moore, a local, finished me off.

I could be mistaken, but it seems to me Buddy mentioned Metropolis as the premier locale for the bank-pool tour that he's trying to get started. There's a nice video interview of him on theactionreport.com where he discusses his desire to develop a bank-pool tour. That may be how the rumor got started about the Harrah's tournament.kankakeekid said:

I went to the Buddy Hall Superman Classic and it was a good tournament and was won by Nick Varner. After a spectacular combination shot on the 9 made by Nick, Buddy quipped "They better get that man a cape". He was right... Nick won.
They were going to try to have it annually but evidently those plans/dreams didn't materialize.. for one reason or another.
