Good for you Hawaiian. But for the rest of us and me I collect autographs reminds me of the times that I met them and just to have them around my pool room.but to answer the question Buddy hall!
I have autographs of almost everyone who ever played the game at a high level, or was involved deeply in the sport over a 30 year span.
I used to go to a lot of tournaments and would take pictures and get an autograph and sometimes talk to the players . I had a great time ,
I remember all but 2 of them with great memories, like it was yesterday, and it's one of my favorite things about my pool experience.
One of my favorite storys about an autograph ,involved Bucktooth Cook.
He was holding court in the lobby of the casino at DCC several years back, with an audience of about 25 or 30 pool denizens and wannabes.
I went up and asked him for his autograph, figuring there would probably be some snide remarks. {I never gave a shit what strangers thought of me anyway, the people who matter to me ,all know who and what I am or am not.}
Anyway , I think most of them were too surprised to think and Bucktooth says he doesn't sign anything.
Stating that I could possibly be getting his signature and then writing an IOU or something above it and somehow try to trap him. No Way Jose!
That got about 10 snickers and a couple of guffaws, and I said thanks, I understand, and walked away.
He went back to holding court
The Tooth was such a well known person in the pool world years ago, and the new crop was getting to know him pretty quickly, so I really wanted to get his autograph, but I knew it would take some doing to get it.
I went over and got a sheet of paper and covered the whole thing with writing something like , This paper is just an autograph , it is not to be used as any type of legal document or imply anything, except that Bucktooth Cook, the famous pool player, gave me his autograph because i collect them for my own enjoyment. At the bottom I left a space just big enough for him to sign. {There was no other empty space on the paper big enough to write in}
I walked back over into the crowd, with him watching me clear across the floor, and handed him the paper. The crowd was waiting on him to chew on my as,s when he started to chuckle and said something like , I had made up my mind to never sign your autograph , but this is so clever I can't say no!
I would write it down verbatim , but it's somewhere in this house but not my autograph books, and I can't find it .
Tooth, if you are out there , can you send another one on a 8 1/2 x 11 blank piece of paper buddy? Just sign at the bottom. {Maybe he got loose in his old age? you never know}
I have Matlocks Keiths Matayas in the 80s and I got Dr. Cues in the early 90s before he ever did any of the trick shot tournaments I don't know who the other 2 people are but I might have theirs also, lol.
