Poolhalls in Baltimore??

Any good poolhalls in downtown Baltimore, around the inner Harbor area?

Sorry, to say there are no pool rooms downtown. I recommend top hat pool room which is on the out skirts of the Baltimore beltway. approx a twenty minute drive.. the room is well maintain. 22 9ft tables and 3 bar box tables, 1 heated billiard table, plus a separate ping pong room. all the tables have just been re-clothed for the up coming Maryland 14-1 tourney scheduled 9-15 9-16. they do have some food but no alcohol.
two other rooms on the out skirts of the Baltimore beltway are triple nines pool room in elkridge and big daddy's pool room in glen burnie md. both are clean and nice room but every time i been there i was the lone player except if they were having a league night or a small in house tourney.
hope that helps you my friend. Paul

I agree with Paul. Top Hat is a great room.

If you have to stay near the harbor, go have lunch at Atman's (Attman's?) Deli and screw pool.

Paul...Next time you go to Big Daddy's ask to play the owner. Nice guy and plays very well!

West Side

Don't forget VIP Billiards, not far off the West side of the city and on Rt. 40. A bit difficult to find, but not a bad room (in my opinion..haha)

With VIP Billiards now closed, what are some other options? I am new to the area and am looking for leagues and tournaments. Here's a starting list of rooms I've found searching in this site:
Top Hat - good action
Triple Nines - elkridge
Big Daddy's - glen burnie
Running Out Billiards
The New Green Room in dundalk, MD - bar boxes

Anyone have any info on straight pool leagues, BCA leagues, and tournaments?

I am staying in Columbia for the next 8-12 weeks, then moving to downtown Baltimore. But I'll drive somewhere if someone is willing to hit some.

Thanks,

Sam

Don't have info on BCA leagues, the Green Room in Dundalk is loaded with APA every nite of the week.

Damn, I'm sorry to hear VIP Billiards closed down.

I usually go to Kelly's Cue Club, Top Hat or Magic 8. I usually end up at Kelly's since its close. The tables roll nice but the pockets are super tight compared to Top Hat and Magic 8.

There's a good amount of bar box tourneys during the weekends.

Can you please share more info about that?

Yo, BB!

I'd say they have about 18 Diamond bar boxes and two Diamond 9 footers. The 9 footers are separated from the bar boxes at the opposite side of the room. It is primarily suited for league players. Was there last weekend and not sure about action activities.

Thanks, compadre! That is the old champions, right?

Any idea about start time?

Sam,

Triple Nines in Elkridge has BCA and APA leagues. I'll warn you now that the tables are just absolute crap. In fact, once I finish this current BCA session, I'm done with the place.

However; in Triple Nines favor, they have really cheap table time and a hell of a deal on Saturdays and Sundays. Note that if you choose to do a Saturday and/or Sunday that it is highly advisable to get there about 9:30 am and wait for them to open at 10. If you wait until later in the day, there will be no parking unless you are willing to join in fisticuffs with someone. There is a huge flea market there and it stays packed.

Occasionally I do go to Big Daddy's. They do have a 14.1 league there on Thursday nights but I'm unable to do that one due to another commitment on that night. I'll actually be trying to find something over there to fit my schedule once I'm done with BCA league at Triple Nines.

I'll send you a pm with a BCAPL rep that will contain his number and e-mail.

I've heard a lot about Top Hat and Kelly's but have not had a chance to visit either place.

I went to Top Hat last nice and was really surprised. The tables were is near-new shape having been cleaned and recently felted (likely for the straight pool tourney they just hosted. I also met Loye who runs the straight pool league there and he seemed like a really nice guy. Will definitely be going back there.

I'll check out Big Daddy's tomorrow night. If anyone is around an would like to hit some, lemme know.

Sam

Magic 8 is under new ownership and is trying to do things right. Give them a shot. Hit Corner Stable for the best ribs in town after you play.

Geez I really know how to pick 'em. Decided to go to Big Daddy's tonight. Arrived a little late, in fact I'm in the parking lot right now (11:30 pm). But they're closed. Not sure if they went out of business or decided to close early or what. Will try Magic 8 Cue Club Monday for their supposed 9 ball tourney...

They have no business at all, if you do go back, you will most likly be the only one there!

Do yourself a favor and go to TOP HAT billiards , just off the baltimore beltway (695). there is always action there, i dont care what time you go through the doors.

Also there is one of the best pool players that ever lived that works there (Cigar Tom Vanover) Tom played Rempe,Strickland for 50 a game even 9ball back in the 80s when they were the best players in the world and broke even with both of them after playing for very long hours!

Tom has won 9 straight Maryland all around championships also, 10 altogether!

If you want to gamble or play for fun you will find it here.

If you do want someone to hit balls with ask for Tall Paul (great guy) he will play for fun and he is a member here at AZ BILLIARDS (bmore tall paul, i think).

Go there, you will go back!

They have a good 9ball tourney on Tuesday nights at Big Daddy's. They get a good field and some strong players. I'm usually there every Tuesday for it.
