Poolhalls in St. Petersburg, FL

I'll be down in St. Petersburg next weekend. Any notable poolhalls to visit, and play?

+1 for Strokers. You can find quite a few APA championship matches played in Strokers on YouTube.

Thursday, August 13th to Monday, August 17th to attend a trade show. My friend's roommate dropped out, so I may be asked to fill in as the plus one.

So far I have on my list
first Hooters, Clearwater FL
Salvador Dali Museum, right across the street from the host hotel.
Bern's steakhouse, Tampa

I won't have my cue with me, as it would draw strange looks, but I wouldn't mind checking out the local pool scene.

Next weekend means when?

Stroker's - Palm Harbor
Crooked Cue - Clearwater

Trying to picture what the Dali museum looks like...
....if it's all right angles, I would be soooo disappointed. :frown:

The Flamingo is a small bar with a few bartables and a nine foot gold crown by the entrance. The owner Dale is known to stake players against people who come in there to play. In St Pete that place has had more high stakes action than anywhere else if you exclude the times this one local guy Bubba was playing super high which I think went down elsewhere. Dale had been staking a guy they call Gman playing 1p for a while but I heard that ended, so there might not be as much going on down there as there was last year.

Unfortunately, I'll be in California from August 12th-August 17th.

I'd tell you to go to Hooters on Madeira Beach (a "village" of St. Pete).

Visit my town (Gulfport) on Saturday between 6PM - 9PM for artwalk. Sing karaoke at O'Maddy's at 10PM. Report your results here.

Stop by Corner Pocket in Largo and play for the whole day until 6PM for $5.

Then stop by Crooked Cue in Clearwater to play on the only Diamond tables in the area.

But, quite honestly, if I were you, I'd just stay on the beach (St Pete Beach or Treasure Island) and just hang loose.

This is a great recommendation, but what some people who don't live in St. Pete need to be warned about is that we have two Flamingo bars. One is the one on 9th street, owned by Dale. The other is ... well it's not so straight forward.

Go see the one on 9th street!!!

Ok, and I think he should go up to Palm Harbor, but he's going to be staying in downtown St. Pete. So, I was redefining "the area" for him :)

And if I were staying home, he could play on my Diamond!

Can I get around by public transportation (train, bus, taxi), or should I rent a car? In New York City I can take a bus to Amsterdam walk over to Society, then hop on a train to Steinway to watch Finnegan and Earl, then take the subway again out to Carom Cafe for some 3 cushion action in Flushing NY.

Is the Hooters on Madeira Beach better than paying homage to the original in Clearwater?

Nothing like NYC...you need a car here or a fist full of $20 bills for cabs. I hoe you enjoy yourself down ere. Johnnyt

I'd like to try that diamond some day. I didn't like that table at corner pocket last time we hit a few

The shrimp are incredible, can't vouch for the Diamonds since I moved before they were installed but the shrimp more than make up for any lacking of table prowess.
