That is an old Porper... I have the "B" model that has the router and taper bars with another motor for the lead screw. I bought it new from Joe in 1995 for $2700.00. On that one the cross slide connects to the tail stock. No way it sold for $4200, maybe $2000 and that was 20 years ago.

Alex,is this one a Model A? The only ones I've seen in person were the Model B,with a "normal" cross slide mounted on the carriage like a normal metal lathe. Tommy D.

I'll mention this thread to Lee Simon, owner of Buffalo Billiards in Petaluma, CA.

I just checked a billiards digest from 1995 and this lathe sold new for $1995. Good luck with your sale.

I believe it is an "OLD A" as the "A" also had the cross slide mounted on the carriage like the "B" but the "A" did not include the router and taper bar to cut butts and shafts.

That is one of the first that Joe built I would believe but you would have to ask Joe for sure. Who knows it might be collectable.

Yes, the new Porper lathes are $4200.

You are trying to sell yours for $200 more than what it was worth when it was new.

I don't know anything about your model. Did it have a circuit board like the new ones.
Can the circuit board on yours be replaced if it goes south?

If someone were to pay the price, by the time they got it up to par with a new one, you'd be awful close to the price of a new Deluxe or any of the other new building lathes.

All I am suggesting to you is don't try and be deceptive to the members who frequent the Mach forum or you may find just a little resistance with your sale.
Although many of us may have been born at night, it wasn't last night.

It's no way to make friends here.

Good luck with your sale.
