They usually mail my book for $2.69, envelopes about a dollar, I charge $3.50 for shipping & handling. Today they charged me $9.55 for shipping to Canada, $1 for envelope, cost of book, etc. lost money because of incompetent post office, LOL !!

They have raised the Canadian Postal Rates as well. $9.95 is about right for 1st Class to Canada for a small item.

I seldom send anything to the USA any longer, its not worth either my while or the buyers when you factor in shipping.

When I bid on EBay items, quite often I see that Shipping can be approx $20 and upwards. For a small item that can be put in a Photo Mailer and sent for the price of a few stamps.

Like. you're going to charge me 30 bucks shipping for 2 fishing lures Buddy. I'll go to Cabelas, thanks.

Before mailing to other countries it would be wise to check the cost because usps had no control over there rates

It has been like that for a while now. They went sky high. You are paying too much for your envelopes.
Wrap the book in foam wrap and use one of these

Just get the correct size and you will have a nice package for like12 cents.

I have nightmares of the day the USPS and Canada post go out of business. UPS and the other carriers already charge 2-5 times more than them. Imagine what happens when they are gone.

If you're mailing books, don't use first class postage. Use media mail postage. It is much cheaper.

The only downside is that media mail rate postage is lowest priority so sometimes it may take over a week to get across the country. But it is designed for people mailing books and such. You can wrap a book in Saran Wrap then wrap it in brown paper. Much cheaper that way.

Read all about it: https://www.usps.com/ship/media-mail.htm

seems like the incompetency lies with the shipper

Guess about $6.50, not your fault, post office should be ashamed to charge 400% more just for crossing the border.

postal

The usps is not like Canadian Post or any others .The usps is not subsidized by tax dollars. Matter of fact if the******* politicions would stay the hell out of it they would be doing fine. They by far ore the best bang for the buck.

BINGO! It's a surprise someone on here actually knows whats going on. This whole usps crisis is being caused by the government and they want to privatize it so they can sell it off and all there friends can make millions. They just sold off the royal mails in england.... and canada has one foot in the grave already...huge rate increases and end of door to door delivery in canada. The money they say the usps owes was suppose to be in a retirement fund but it has been used to help balance the budget the last 8 years by taking the money and spending it on wars. Its a budget trick...they give no tax dollars to run the post office but then count it as a government agency so they can take money from it. Our friend eric cantor who was second in command in the in the house actally proposed a bill to take millions from the postal budget to balance the transportation bill ......yes thats right!
Now wounder they thru him out.
