Powerful playing cues

What playing cues have you used that transmit the most power with the least effort? General specs would help as well as who made them.

That depends on what you mean by "power". If you're talking about juicing the cue ball (applying english/spin) with least amount of effort, for me it was a 19 oz 59 inch GEM (Gary Medlin out of Lake Charles, LA). 12 mm and 12.5 mm shafts, thin half splice butt, fairly "whippy" action. I pretty much played center ball and "imagined" what I wanted the cueball to do, and it just happened. Eerie. Took a little getting used to, but once I did the cue seemed to play by itself.

By power I mean using the least amount of physical effort to move the cue ball with or without english/draw.

Gibbs with V2 shaft.... not sure where you are located but you can test drive one at DCC if you are going to it.....

While we are discussing this I am curious about a couple of other things as well:

What city has the most beautiful women?

What is the best car?

Carry on with the "powerful cue" discussion......

Think that that would be based on the individual , never had one but would like to shoot some with one and that would be a cue with forward balance. Depending on your stroke and feel it could give you the feel of the cue propelling itself as opposed to you propelling the cue , just a perception i have , no real world experience with a forward balance , depending on you it could effect the straightness of your stroke.

Bangor ME
Ford Tempo (edited - the AMC Pacer is 'right there' as well)

powerful cue? whichever one Larry Nevel is carrying at the time

I have the most powerful cue in the world.
Dale Perry 1 of 1.
Retail - $1800.00

If you're ask nice, I might be able to let you have a it a bit cheaper.

This cue is scary accurate. It does almost play by itself.
Comes with a Le Pro tip. I think thats probably what does it.

When I need extra spin I loosen the shaft about halfway. It works best on cues that thread directly into wood.

Play with a break cue

put a Moori Med on a Predator BK2 and you will probably have as good a playing cue as you can find and only spend about $400.00

I've played a number of times (in a barbox league) with my OB Break cue...no need to change the tip with it, the Samsara break tip is just fine.

I am enjoying the subjective humor! But, back to the ? at hand. What qualities, materials, weighting, etc. make a cue transmit energy more efficiently? Will a forward balanced cue hit a cue ball farther with the same amount of force/speed than a back balanced cue of the same total weight?

To your second question , no , but as to the person applying the speed and force , yes . Everybody is made different , some people have longer forearms in relation to the upper arm , so many factors . Some people may feel more comfortable with one or the other balance and there may be a perceived difference to them , or a real one. The angle at which the speed/force is applied , quick twitch muscles and all that . A lot of variance in humans.

The stiffest piece of continous wood paired with the hardest possible tip will exhibit the least amount of energy loss.

Cues do not have 'power' and a person of at least minimum good health should be capable of supplying more force then ever required to pocket a ball with virtually any cue.

This is why your getting so much 'subjective' humor. ;)

I have a 60" Colorado / Dan Breggan cue with 14mm ferrule-less shafts, and it is way too much cue for me.
Very powerful

On Monday I tried a combination using an Ernie Martinez shaft (3/8-12) with an ivory & gold shaft collar, ivory ferrule,
the original water buffalo tip from the 90's, with an older Ernie Martinez wrapless 6-pointer.
Haven't checked the diameter, but it's big.
Again, too much cue for me.

I also have some Joss West cues that are too much cue for me, as well as a 20.5 oz. ebony South West...all very powerful.

You may want to try a Cognoscenti.
Their powerful, but not too powerful
