Practice practice practice

Accuracy over power:
Rambling alert!
I was the smallest in the Little Rascals environment. As a kindergarten student I rode the high school bus the seven miles to Weaverville. My call sign became, Spit in the eye. I was obviously secure in the protection of the older girls. Heh heh!
Time laps to my freshman year in highschool

Bonus Rambling 😉 uh I forgot 😉.
Coordinated movement. Isn't that a Dance?
"You Wanna Dance?"
Efren plays the violin.

Do the Right Thing:
My freshman counselor put me in 7th period P E. The period occupied by the Varsity football team, as they could progress from pe to practice.
I was 5' and 98 lbs, fresh meat(from Avatar). The drill was line up along the bleachers in the cracker box gym. Alphabetical for Coach of Barney Fife stature, but well he was never early to break up a fight. Talk about throw in to the jungle.
Callahan
Cantrall
Dillon
Downen
With Callahan and Dillon being the matched set of 6' 200+ lb tackles. The first week, in the line up. Each would reach into the neck of my t-shirt and divide it. As I stood at attention. The remains were backhanded into the bleachers just before Coach exited the office for inspection.
"Cantrall where's your shirt?" "I don't know Coach" was the only answer . Day after day, until Charley stepped in for me. "C'mon guys, he's been talking this and hasn't told. Give him a break!" Whew I was out of shirts.😉

Charley Downen went on to be Trinity county Sheriff. Charlie of Weaverville would have been bookends with Andy of Mayberry.
Thanks Charlie for the good example that I will always strive to emulate.

The Alien:

an hand crafted original 😉
Works as an unobtrusive break pad and a rack template. Guess that makes it a multi tool. Can't remember what the making of tools says about animals.
The shape rambling alert.
In highschool my German and algebra teacher held class in a temporary modular room. It had a long heat register on the back wall. I had a desk that was adjacent to the register. With my interest in flying and aerodynamics, I devised a wall glider constructed of note paper. Got it to where the little devil would stay up and glide around the wall. Pretty simple paper airplane.
In my glee I went uh mischief. Wanted to see how many I could get flying before Mr Ehlerding noticed. I was ahead of the class, so must have been algebra as German required my attention.
I had around a half dozen up and floating the back wall when he noticed. I was prepared for a stern German style reprimanded. Nope! He was impressed and encouraged me to follow my interest. With Praise!!
USAFA was where I went.

Think of air hockey. That's the principal that held them to the wall. Used on race cars to hold them tight to the ground.

Still thinking of paper airplane design. The wall glider was the sst design inverted and placed on the wall with the v fold opening to the back. The increase in the size of the v from front to back gave the hold(suction) to the wall. I found that if I folded up the wing tips (like I see on some airliners now) it gave stability. I had never seen it before and found that it worked for stability in the paper airplane I won our class paper airplane contest with as well. My SST design not only flew the length of the cracker box gym, it took a dive towards the floor then rose to strike the wall at an elevation, Far Far above the other competitors. 😉

Note to self:
Must Trust. When the nerves are jangling.
By the numbers. The Waltz. When I am down on the shot with 0 confidence. A tester that could be make or break. The breathing #1.
Find the shot. Plan the shot. Commence Survey. Reafirm plan. Do the Waltz. And trust, if it works.... exhale and refocus. Could be a long dance.
If it doesn't work...sit quietly doing self analysis. Get the mind right. Was it Me? Was it a skid? Then be real.

The third option would be The pool Gawds. Sometimes it seems as if they are not keeping up their end of the deal.😉
I find that it helps if I take a knee as soon as possible on the slow to develop shot.😉

Story time:
Scotch doubles with the wife in the national s in Vegas.
We met nice people. 😁
Was really F-ing happy for them.😉 No really we enjoyed the competition of both of our matches.
The make or break shot in match 1 came in game 3 after we won the first 2 off the opponents nerves. The young man had played a reasonable safety. Leaving me in the kitchen with our last 2 balls on the foot rail. They had one foot corner blocked and one other ball in a good spot too.
My two balls were were in close proximity with the 6 maybe 6-8 inches out of the open corner. My 5 ball was a good look at the straight back but.. the 8 ball blocked half the pocket. The billiard from the 5 to 6 was on. I had no feeling for the rail(yet). So chose the billiard with speed on the 5 to return to that end. As I survey my wife opinions that I should call the bank as I had comments to my quandary with the decision. With the scotch doubles coaching rules. All conversation is from a distance. Feeling the nerve a little and no confidence in a bank I can't find a safe place on the table. So......call the 6 aiming the 5 a diamond wide to return for a chance at a short shot, if I make the 6. The 5 shortened perfect and split the pocket. And the 6..... Missed it by 'that much'. Oh darn.
The young man that had played the safety was sitting behind the pocket that the 5 entered. He had a look of amazing as he was apparently Shure the bank was blocked.

Hand and eye:
Coordinated action. The Dance.
The camera work on the morning session between Ronnie and Robertson (Neal) was excellent. I was so looking forward to the final act. Then it was gone from Matchroom live. Rats!!!
I already had to forgo the Ronnie Mark Williams match (for the team). Wonder if I could find the complete match anywhere.
Pretty amazing the combined power and accuracy these top snooker players can produce. The silence of the commentary is evidence of respect for the art being put on display. Occasionally remark briefly to the incredible performance. I so prefer the silence to the analysis of what the pressures can do to a player.😉 Then there's the endless banter by the well meaning videos promoting pool by new broadcasting efforts
It's not arm and eye, nor wrist and eye. Barry Stark teaches the hand action I am seeing in the top players.

Practicing is how you build mussel memory.

Do something 100 times, it becomes second nature.
Yep. The power of the reps making it SO important to find the Basic form with the solid foundation and most consistent (repeatable) mechanics, first. Then fiddle with the fine tuning. (Ronnie admits to tinkering with it.)
My years of less than perfect form makes for more than double the time to adjust the second nature. However it provides me with entertainment as I can laugh at my short comings, in my persist ant persuit of perfection.
Guess I should call it a fitness program and not practice. Practice is something Doctors do.

The Tension:
I saw the slightest tension in John Higgins stroke. At the end when he had the mid range tester that gave Neal Robertson a path.
Shure can identify with that.
I remember Dan Louie playing Earl at the Sands tournament in Reno. They came to hill/hill. Dan missed the 6 straight in the side.....then Earl did the same. Earl did prevail. I had sweated the whole match and was nearest to Dan as he stowed his gear. He turned to me and in a matter of fact manner said, "you know Greg, I just got nervous." My reply was, "You know Dan, I can identify with that."

With large pockets, My technique includes... The set up. Cole used to set up so that if he passed out, gravity would complete the shot.

My practice is my fitness program. Mental and physical.
Stage fright is the hardest to practice. Well on the table. However there's technique that can be practicing in interaction with strangers.
Chase is still entertaining.
This is a position that I bank the 5 cross side and take the cue ball to the foot rail to kick the 4 to the side. Haven't hit it but just discovered it.

Entertainment: This could be a shot that vexes me for a long time.
Well with my latest rules addendum. With the expression of "that scores double in Australia" with a scratch..... making both is 3 points add the scratch and score 6! Oh what fun. The shot is there but....
