Practice table size 9’ or 10’

You got a couple of guys on here that say they bank funny and not consistent and another guy saying the pockets being cut poorly. Then you got Trent on here bashing Diamond as well.

I'm still leaning towards Diamond but I've got a while to decide unfortunately.
If you want to get a more definitive answer I'd talk to a top pro who plays on all tables.
And ask more than one, their thoughts if you feel the information you got is good.

What kind of player are you? Informal. Tournament. Gambler. Social. What are you trying to accomplish/achieve? Your goals other than have fun.
Bad anology but I play on a 9 foot and still suck on an 8foot. Will you be happy with a 10ft in a few months. Cannot go wrong with a 9foot

Honestly I feel like I’m growing out of a 9’ table. Meaning it’s getting quite easy to make balls and play position. Wondering if I should get a 10’ just for a greater challenge.
You’re answering your own question. Have fun and go with your gut. Nothing is permanent…. If money is not an object get the 10. Can always swap for a 9. Will be a little hassle but can be done.

Win local tournaments on a 9’ table

I noticed a post mention if u r going to go with a 10’ table get a cloth that plays fast. I think those does make sense so when going back to a 9’ table the speed control adjustment won’t be so big. What cloths are know to play fast?

Get simonis 760. I have played on 10 footers with 760 and 860 and the 760 is much more playable. Basically once the cloth wears in on 860 on a 10 foot table you have to hammer everything to get significant ball movement. You don't have to do that as much on the 760.

Problem there is that few places use 760. You get used to cloth that fast and you go play on 860 or even HR and your speed control will be nowhere. Get a 9ft table with 860 or HR. Practice on what you're going to see 99% of the time.

I have found that is not the case. The speed change seems to scale with the size of the table. For example if you get 860 you will have to absolutely hammer balls (at a speed you never have to use on a 9 footer) to draw off the side rail one rail if you dont have a perfect angle. With the 760 this same shot is performed with about the same speed as 860 on 9 foot trable. For some minority of shots I think you are right but for the majority of shots in rotation games the 760 on a 10 foot plays more like a 9 foot with 860.

I have played on two 10 footers, one with 860 and one with 760 and if I was purchasing one I would definitely choose the 760 for this reason.

Nice post SA....interesting/understructure.
But growing up in the Chicago area, we NEVER saw a bar table in the pool rooms of the 50's 60's they were in barzzzzzzzah.
Even the bowling alleys (Brunswick, Bristol WI) had 9 footers.
I had played for 13 yrs on 9' when I first saw this box in a bar.
Yep that 7' table is the real deal.
Comparable to a PGA par three course IMO.
Only other table that Played like a tough Diamond 7' was the Irving K.
Was a pool room Full of em in Lincoln NE.

Nobody seems to realize that it's a lot easier to play position (and not hook yourself) on a 10 footer than it is on a 7 footer. Same number of balls, a WHOLE lot more table area size.

I have 760 on my 10 foot tables for the last 20 years. This was advice I got from the mechanic that set it up. Dwight from Triangle Billiards - which I believe is no longer in business in Denver.

I played some on the BF table at Tunica one year. There's nothing easy about it, traffic or no traffic.

You tend to need less english because balls dont get in the way as much and you need to make sure you pocket the shots
I didn't say it was easier to pocket balls. I said it was easier to play position without hooking yourself.
It isnt just easier to not hook yourself its significantly easier to not hook yourself but you still need to get good distance and angle even more. 8-ball on 10 foot tables is a total joke thats for sure. The balls are all out in the open....

My vote with your money is to go for the 10'. You will have something special. Lets face it, a "player" buys a home table for themselves. Not for entertainment of guests. Get what will make you happy.

I too have played on 760 for many years in one room that was my home base, while the neighboring rooms were 860. It was no big deal to switch between them, IMO. However, the room that had the 760 was slightly humid, and the faster speed helped a lot. One time the owner put 860 in that room, and we all hated it. He went back to 760 6 months later on the next recover.

Practice on what your going to be playing on.

It’s really that simple. All this pocket size, table size, remember what pocket you can cheat or not. Please……

How can practicing on something different and therefore needing to make adjustments to play your best be helpful?

Keep it simple

Best
Fatboy

Did you get your table up yet?
