Precisely what characterizes a Hoppe?

I have noticed a number of cues described as a "Hoppe style"... or having a "Hoppe ring"... As a 3-Cushion player I admire the great Willie Hoppe. But I was not aware of his influence on cue design (if that is in fact the Hoppe referred to.) can someone describe what makes a cue a Hoppe... perhaps with some pictures? And a little background on how the reference came about would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Not a collector or expert but believe that prominent feature that must be present is the Hoppe ring in the butt. Small 1/4in or so ring in place of traditional full white or black butt cap. Also would be a traditional type cue with points. My new cue will have a Hoppe ring only, but would not be called a Hoppe cue just for that? It won't be a traditional cue.

Yep, just the ivory or other material ring in the buttsleeve. Here's a picture of the type of ring. Im sure there are tons of people on here who could post up some Hoppe ring "style" cue's.
