Predator 10 Ball Format Great for the Game/Audience

I don't mind the novelty that is this format, even with the shootout, which I personally cannot stand. As there are probably twenty significant 9ball events for every significant 10ball event, why not have something like this in 10ball that's off the beaten path?

Still, should a WPA sanctioned world championship allow a format in which the player who wins fewer racks than the other can win the match? World championships should be made of stronger stuff than that.

I'd be very upset if the WNT ever adopted a format like this.

In tennis you get the same amount of shots at the ball as your opponent.

In pool you watch the game from a chair and feel lucky if you get to stand up.
Some of my favorite things about one pocket (there are many) are the shorter innings and mix of offense/defense - more like sparring with a live opponent.

Sorry, been awhile since I've been here. Is there a link to watch live. Thanks

while there could be good reasons to have a shootout to decide the winner in a pool contest, i don’t see the last game of a five set world championship match as a good idea

in soccer it makes good sense
the first half is all running for almost an hour

the second half is all running for almost an hour

the overtime is almost an hour

if the score is still tied, then there is a shootout because everyone is exhausted

it’s not a fair game to continue like baseball into the 20th inning

If anyone says a shootout is "not fair" yet is a proponent of winner breaks (and beats on about it being the same for both players) for a single race then they are talking hogwash or gobbeldigook or a closely related dialect.

OK, I'll say it. A shootout isn't fair. In theory, it gives each player an equal chance, but it isn't fair because it tests just one of the many skills that define playing winning pool.

Assume Player A and Player B are equals but Player A pockets the balls a little better while Player B is the better tactical player. Why should there be a tiebreaker that gives Player A the advantage?

A shootout is not a test of who is the better player and will generally favor one player over the other.

soccer (futball) five kick tie breaker=fair
pool (10ball) five spot shot tie breaker ≠fair

in soccer the players are too exhausted to continue

in pool the tie breaker could last longer that just one more game

maybe re-lag for the last and final break?

Then propose alternate break, win by two.

All the credit to Alex Kazakis for some seriously straight shooting in the semifinal shootout, but his weakest suit in the five sets played was speed control, and that weakness was not tested in the shootout. Unfortunately for Shane, the tiebreaker was not a speed control contest.

Oh, and one last thing. I hate shootouts.

I wish Predator would make a template rack. Repeat sales, and Predator could use them in their tournaments. I hate seeing someone put a good cue ball on the rack only to get slugged by the racker….

shane would have been breaking in the final game of the match, but no, it was a (26? ball) practice drill that determined the winner

silly

one question, why did kazakis shoot first for the shootout?

Actually, speed was tested also! From what I can remember, Shane was pocketing very fast! And during Kazakis' shots, you could hear the shotclock beeping almost every time! Oh yes, the shotclock is active during the shoot out as well!

Yeah but if they've been playing for two hours haven't we seen a test of all their skills? I mea the same could be said for 4'' pockets, that advantages the straighter shooter?
