I'm having a slight dilemma and need advice before I do it for the hell of it. I have a new Predator 2 shaft with the Everest tip but the tip seems just a bit soft for me, as it throws alot of english onto the cue. I know they come with Sniper tips too...Are they any harder? I'm used to playing with a med. Talisman in case you're wondering for comparison! Thanks, Jeff

If you are used to a medium Talisman AND you have to change the tip anyways, why not just put a Talsiman medium on it in the process?

However the Talisman M is 73.9 on the durrometer while Everest is 75.1; which is basically insignificant.

What's your source for this durometer info?

I don't have to change the tip, I want to! My belief is that by putting a "hard tip" on a Predator shaft, you defeat the purpose. The shaft won't perform correctly with a hard tip on it...Is this correct? If it's not correct, why wouldn't they offer more tips installed by the manufacturer? It must be true since they only use softer tips? Correct answers needed guys!! Thanks, Jeff

try a hard tip. i like tiger hard tips. i rarely miscue and can spin anywhere u wanna go. i think hard tips play more consistantly. worth a try

question

predator will also install moori in any hardness

I guess my best question is this: Can you put a harder tip onto a Predator shaft and still have good results from it? I know Moori tips can be pretty near the hardness I like, but can you still get same results with these tips? I've tried google to find answers but have come up dry. Sorry if you found otherwise, where did YOU look? I couldn't find tip answers on Predator's site even!

My best answer is to try it and see if you like the results........I have had Moori hard on all of my shafts until just recently, I tried a Kamui black hard and I really like it so far.

The only thing you can do is try it and see

Yes. It's essential. The everest/predator combination doesn't work IMO. Change the tip and you'll change the cue for the better.

Put on a kamui.

I tried an everest, mori and a wizard on my predator 314-2. Then I put on a kamui.

It was kind of strange. I got enough english but not too much.

When I thought I was getting too much english I found that it was real consistent so the too much was really predictable.

So now when I did need more english I could get a more measured amount which is what we all need.

I've had the tip on for about 3 months now and it has gotten a little harder but still plays real well.

You need to try one of these. Forget about the price for a minute and just try one.

The one I like right now is the tan soft. I'm going to try the kamui black next. Jesse Engle let me hit some with his cue and his tip was old but still played like when my tan was new.

Good Advice. Have a great day geno.........

I just purchased a 314^2 in the Wanted/For Sale thread last week. I've shot with it twice now and with the tip it had on it (seller wasn't 100% sure what tip it was) I was having trouble with cut shots using outside english as the english and outside throw seemed to be amplified and I'd over cut the shot. Not sure if that's the tip or just the fact that I still need to get used to this whole LD thing. I've shot with a "conventional" shaft all my life. Anyway, I did change the tip to my old favorite - the Chandivert red fibre-backed (Champion?) tip. We'll see how that one plays.

i changed to a moori medium a few days ago & had about 8 hours of play with it so far. i have had miscues with it unlike the lepro i replaced. have ordered a kamui soft but it will be a couple of weeks before i change over. the moori tip, even with using the "pic", goes mirror smooth after a few shots..and does not hold the dime shape very long. maybe common with this tip but i am not real happy with the moori thus far. maybe the k soft will be the answer.

Make sure the tip hasn't delaminated that will certainly make it soft. I myself just went from sniper to everest and thought it was harder than I expected. My only experience with a everest is on the Z shafts and it feels softer there. I used to play with water buffalo tips which are really hard and could really get english but I am more consistent with the softer tips.

thanks

LOL, Thanks for confusing me even more guys...Now I don't know WHAT to do as far as replacing my tip! lol

Clear up or add confusion for Dukeboy

Dukeboy, I have owned 4 predator cues and one single shaft since the beginning of predator cues. The original 314 5/16-14 joint, the cat with uniloc,a predator 2, and cat single shaft that I tried out on different butts that I use. I have experimented with different tips on the predator to see what a difference they would make on feel and performance. The predator shafts design does not bode well with a softer tip. The strong point other than low deflection is you get more out of it with less physical effort except with a soft tip. It kills the action alot. The original predator came with a lepro and played fantastic. The mori medium hard played fantastic. A medium hard tip is the answer. Now I haven't tried all of them but because there are just too many but I can tell you the soft won't get it (including the everest). I have not tried the kamui black medium. The two I know will give you great result are the lepro (which was the original tip on predators) and the mori medium. Trust me soft is not the way to go. I usually don't like to sound so sure of myself on here because a lot of things are personal preference and the flak here at az can be abusive. This I have tried and experienced. I am an above average player and can tell the difference. Now the brand of tip is subjective and harder than a medium hard is preference but softer than this and you don't have the predator performance. If you are still confused go to youtube and look at ,whats in the case, of the pros using predator shafts. They use what works. Alex Pagulayan,Dennis Hatch and many other pro predator shaft users are on there. Hope this doesn't confuse you more

Never be afraid of abusive responses when you speak the truth.

I'll add Triangles work well with Preds, once they've shortened and stiffened up

Use regular HD shaft and no worries with tips

Its part of the LD thing. The c/b squirts less but the swerve is still there. I tend to over cut as well. Keep the cue as level as possible and use less english. I aim a little fatter on some shots especially slow spin.

I don't get the reference by the OP or the reply by Geno for that matter. If you want less english, then use less english. If you get to much, I'd question stroke accuracy or tip placement. I use a compressed elk, its over a year old.
