Predator Air Jump

Daryl Peach used a predator air in the World Pool Championships and in the Mosconi Cup.

Thanks because honestly, I wasn't crazy about it and I haven't seen any good player use one ever.

I mean yeah, it's lighter and all of that, but otherwise I just found it to be too flexible to get a consistent "pop" out of it.

To each his or her own. :D

So does that mean everybody that makes a jump/break cue spun/stole the idea from the first guy that made a 3 piece jump/break cue?
Yep. Rick Howard came up with the first J/B cue. Now look how many copied that design. If you came up with it, you're the innovator. If you took someone else's design, you're an imitator.

Now, don't bring up the two piece cue. That's out of necessity, and has pretty much become the industry standard. Same as a 3/4 length snooker cue. However, Rick's design of the J/B was the first of its kind. To me, when Falcon came out with theirs, it was a blatant copy of Rick's design, and was made purely to capitalize on the fact that Rick couldn't keep up with demands, being a one man shop.

The back ends are hollow? I have had both and didn't think either one of them had hollow handles, where did you see this? Regardless of my affiliation, past or present, I have never seen a cross-section, diagram or anything to show that any part of the handles are hollow.

In fact the 3rd piece on the Stealth cue was very heavy, Ned gave me the one I had for years when he designed it and partnered up with Mark at Stealth to manufacture.

THE SHAFT IS 5 OUNCES,MID SECTION IS 2.7 AND THE BACK END IS 3.6 OUNCES. THESE AREN'T GUESSES EITHER, I JUST WEIGHED MINE.

WHEN DID 3.6 BECOME VERY HEAVY?

I'VE NEVER SEEN A CROSS SECTION OF THE AIR EITHER, I WAS TOLD IN THE PREDATOR BOTH AT THE SBE THAT IT WAS HOLLOW TO MAKE IT LIGHTER. I MAY HAVE BEEN MISINFORMED.

P.S. I'M NOT LOOKING TO ARGUE, I WAS JUST STATING MY OPINION THAT THE MORRIS WAS SUPERIOR, AND I FEEL PREDATOR WAS ATTEMPTING TO COPY HIS DESIGN

Well maybe if these things had patents I could see it being "ripped off", but aren't some ideas kind of eventual discovery? Like they would have figured it out and probably come out with something like that on their own given time?

Maybe I am watching too much Law and Order, that's where I got the idea from. Ha ha.

Edit: The 3rd piece may be 3.6 ounces which isn't heavy in itself, but it's half as the forearm part but heavier so to me that seems heavy.

Edit2: I am not trying to argue either I'm just trying to learn and perhaps interject some knowledge where I can. Yes I still play with/for Predator but don't have the employment or sponsorship like I used to in the past.

Well I don't know if Daryl uses it because he really likes it or it's because he's sponsered by predator. It's really getting too easy to jump these days. Time to get my kicking cue!

Yeah, discovered with time.......and Google. Key in "jump cue". Or, go look at the Billiard Warehouse website. It would take you a whole 2 minutes to rip off.............I mean, "eventually discover" the Stealth AirTime.

Predator Air

Here is what my observation of the Predator Air. It is cool that it is three piece. The weight I think is too light for me. The jump I have right now is a Custom, but the jump is effortless. It just seemed I had to put alot more into to get it to jump. I do think the sweet spot claim is full of it too, I didnt notice a difference between the cues deflection or anything.

That being said, The Air is a really nice jump cue. I had no problems getting the ball off the table. The extra bottom extension is handy for a longer jump. I would ultimately say though that money would be better spent on a normal jump with a phenolic tip. Its just my opinion, dont chastise me on that one.

My thought is that right tip/ferrel and the right sized cue (smaller) and it'll get the ball off the table.

Thats the observation of a non pro pool hall junkie.

Well the funny thing about the Predator Air Jump Cue is that at the BCA in May ride darn next to the Predator Booth, was the Stealth booth, and the DEMO Guy was performing almost the same jump cue magic show with his Stealth Jump Cue. also in the room was Robin Dodsons booth where there we demoing the Tadpole, and Frog Jump Cue. Again same show.

Do I wonder if the Predator Air Jump is really new or just like many thing that are pitched to end user, a little hope, and a little new.

But I will give Predator one thing that being is it does have an extension handle.

Also maybe it is not the JUMP CUE, but the person skill in Demoing their Jump Cue that is the real show.

Would you be as vehement about your argument if Joss had come out with a 3-piece jump cue or do you have a hard-on for Predator in general? I haven't read your posts so I don't know if you are a Predator hater or just an idealist.

NED'S CUE IS AWESOME. I HAVE TWO, AND WOULDN'T TRADE EM FOR ANYTHING. I AGREE THAT THE AIR, IS JUST PREDATOR HALF ASSED ATTEMPT TO COPY A GREAT CUE.

I TRIED THE PREDATOR AIR, AND IT'S THE THIRD BEST JUMP CUE I'VE TRIED. THE "DEUCE" BY KILLER MILLER IS THE SECOND BEST (AND BY FAR THE STRANGEST DESIGN)
Do you know if there are any of Ned's cues for sale anywhere or would he build a new one if a customer wanted one?

James

Stealth is at every show and always have a bunch of them for sale, plus they have dealers that should carry them too but don't have a link to give you. Sorry.

My first Jump Q was a Frog, I sold it in about 15 day. I could not make it work (JUMP) it was me not the Cue. The Jumper I am iusing now work real will, but I will admit it would be nice to have the extention the other guys offer.

The Frog had that coating over it that made it extremely hard to stroke smoothly and the wrap was slippery too. Jump cues have come a long way since Robin introduced that thing in the early 90's or whenever it was.

NOT SURE, I'VE HAD MINE FOR AWHILE NOW. I'LL SEE IF I CAN FIND SOMETHING FOR YOU, I'M A STERLING DEALER, SO IF IT'S AVAILABLE I SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET IT.

Not one poster

has mentioned accuracy with the Predator Air. That's the problem with the
'super light' jump cues is accuracy, they get the cue ball up, but controlling accuracy is more difficult then. (From past experience with a Scorpion 8.5 oz jump cue with hollow butt).

I am more accurate with my J&J with the phenolic tip.
