Predator breaking cue vs modified cuetec

I have a cuetec with fiber glass coating on the shaft and I've been breaking with it fine. I usually pocket at least 1 ball and spread it pretty well.

So what's the benefit of spending $300 on a predator breaking cue when I'm already getting decent results?

use what you like and are comfortable with...if I may ask what has been modded on your q-tec?

Oh right, forgot about that.

I had a Phenolic tip and ferule installed. And the pro said that the joint is more than strong enough plus the fiber glass shaft is very stiff.

You're comparing a Chevy to a Ferrari... both will get you there... but will react differently depending who is behind the wheel.

So use what works for me and don't just go with the marketing , yes?

Your Cuetec will work fine. Just as good as any high dollar break cue out there. Don't believe the hype.

My $35 break shafts are as good as the $170 Meucci break shafts on Ebay.

Some people like to buy the most expensive equipment and then think they are a pool player.:D

If you are parking the rock... Making a ball and not getting clusters you have found your break cue.... Different break cues will work better or worse depending on your natural speed.... If you are getting results stick with what you own...

For me the predator works at my normal speed... I hit them around 24mph without forcing it.... I can ramp up but harder means I don't get a shot on the 1 or things cluster...

10Ball is a different story... If I played it more than 9ball I'd likely be on the hunt for a different cue since I always get clusters and think I need another 2mph.....

Poolguy4u: You got a point. GLad I asked.

Renfro: you mean the cue ball stops on impact, I pocket a ball or two 7 of 10 times and the balls spread out all over the table?

THere are times (I break from the right side), and the cue ball goes straight into the back right pocket.
And I don't know what my mph is.

I usually play 9 ball to improve my skill, and 8 ball if it's with a friend.

My father had a Cuetec break cue and the shaft exploded from the joint up.

Never seen a Predator do that.

YES....and you've already stated that you're breaking with it fine.

Why spend the money???

I would not say the comparison is Chevy to a Ferrari, but if your cue works good- use it and forget about Predator; bk2 is way overrated. Bk3 is good but still paying 8 times money is not worth it

if you like your break cue whats the point asking why people spend the money. Obviously the cuetec is garbage but if it works great for you keep on keepin on bud

You are not hitting the 1-ball square in the face. The cue ball deflects off the 1-ball at the precise angle to scratch in the way you describe. I've seen it hundreds of times.

Work on cue ball control. It's far more important than sheer breaking power. Hit that 1-ball (or...front ball) squarely in the face!!!

Like other pool shots, the break is mostly the Indian and not the arrow.

Still - I'm seeing a lot of fuzzy words.
Words like "usually" and "pretty well" and "decent results".
Most players rate their performance by a "general impression" instead of cold, hard facts.
We tend to overrate our game (not knocking you, I've done it too).

How high are your standards?
If you're a C player, making a ball 60% of the time in 10-ball is great.
If you're a top pro, 60% is a shitty night.

If a pro thought he could make a ball on the break just 5% more often by spending $300,
he should jump on it. For the average player, maybe that's not worth it... most players
could improve 5% by just slightly changing their technique.

:thud:

I believe SVB and Alison use a Cuetec.

Why would you say a Cuetec is garbage?

What is a good cue?

Wouldn't say for what they cost, that they are garbage. I have been breaking with a Thunderbolt recently and like it better than some $300 break cues I have owned. Shot with a R360 recently also and it shot pretty sporty.

Break Cue vs Breakrak

I believe the money should be prioritized by how much it can help your game. The Breakrak is a much better investment than a break cue. FYI, I went the opposite and spent on great break cues only to find what helped the most was the Breakrak.

Don't be mistaken, I still would not split with my break cues. But, the order that I would have spent my money would have been Breakrak first. But, if you play like SVB, it wouldn't matter if you break with a broomstick.

Maniac: Good to hear. This will save me $$. Thanks for the knowledge!

CreeDo: I don't overrate my game, infact I said "decent" and "pretty well" is because I actually knock myself down and try to be humble instead. I have a lot to learn. My breaking performance has always been at least 1 ball pocket about 7 out of 10 breaks.

I don't even know what player I am =) .

But what you said made it very clear and it helped me a lot, so thank you.

Got my phenolic canvas tip installed to my fiberglass cuetec and sure enough, it breaks a little harder than the stock crappy tip it had. Even aced the table twice.

I really don't see the need to waste money on an expensive Predator now.

btw, in regards to generating power, it's all about loose grip, wrist and fast elbow right?
I had a slight tennis elbow from Tennis and golf on my right elbow, it started to irritate it 1 hour into playing. Is this normal?
