Predator Championship Live Stream Now from Philippines!

Looks like Orcullo and SVB are having the best years in the pro ranks. Perhaps they should match up in an extended race

Dennis Orcullo

It is over. Orcullo beat Wu in the semi-finals 10 to 5 and then beat Mika in the finals 10 to 8 to bag the championship.

Congratulations Dennis on your big win at the Predator Tournament!!! I hope that the floodgates remain open for a long time.....

I got the word from one of the commentators (Bob Guerrero) on how it all went down. He said Dennis played awesome all the way to the finals, his best match against the very dangerous Wu in the Semis. In the finals both players (Mika and Dennis) were not quite as sharp, making several errors each. But in the last few games Dennis turned it on again, making some good run outs under pressure to grab the title. Sorry but I don't know all the payouts, supposedly 20K was the added money. But I can't attest to anything since I wasn't there.

Believe it or not, this is Dennis' first big win at home. He had never won a tournament in the Philippines, so I'm sure this means a lot to him. By the way it was $10,000 for first.

Funny thing, I sold some old copies of P&B mag to Bob Jewett and before mailing them out, I leafed through them one more time. These were issues from 1985, over 25 years ago! There were several tournaments that year that offered first prizes of over 10K, including the Last Call For 9-Ball at Resorts with a $30,000 first prize (won by Wade Crane over Buddy Hall, who got 15K for second), Buddy won the last Caesars Tahoe event that paid $15,000 and also Willards in Chicago with 15K on top. The BC Open paid $25,000 for first and there were several other events with good purses.

That was very good money in those days, and there were a plethora of tournaments for pro players. Most of them had five or ten thousand in added money, with similar size first prizes. Players actually stayed on the road back then, driving from tournament to tournament. NO ONE knows the highways of the Eastern USA better than Buddy Hall, you can believe that.
Hi Jay, actually Dennis had 2 wins here in the Philippines, both San Miguel sponsored events and both "all- Filipino", one was in 2008 and the other one was last year...however, this is Dennis' first "international event" win here in the Philippines...his closest was during the World Pool Masters 2 weeks ago where he lost to Ralf Souquet in the finals...

I know that top 9-16 got $1,000 each, then top 5-8 got $2,000, losing semifinalists got $3,500 and the runner up got $5,000...
