Predator WPA World Teams Championship (10 Ball), 8-12 Nov, Puerto Rico, Winning Team $120K

... it's odd that some countries have a team of three and others a team of four. ...
In fact they could have sent five. From the press release on the WPA website:

In total, 16 teams from around the world will represent their country at the $300,000 event, which pays $120,000 to the winning team. Teams are comprised of a minimum two male and one female player. Teams can register up to five players (three male and two female) for the event, but only three players will take part in each round.

we have to be happy with the direction pool is going. I mean we aren’t getting pga payouts lol but 40k a piece and I think 75k that svb won at that 8 ball worlds is a hell of a lot better then where we were a few years a go

Defending champion Philippines on verge of early exit (a la defending champions Austria in 2021 WCOP). They must beat ascendant Spain to qualify for quarterfinals

Even that's overkill in my books. During the match, coaching is completely unnecessary and the kind of player that qualifies for the Mosconi hardly ever wants or needs it.

it's most often pep talk or fist bumps, and when it isn't it's opinions on the break.

Yes, I thought Shane’s coaching of April was silly and seemed to interfere with her rhythm (pointing out the most obvious shots that even a novice would spot). But maybe she liked it or thought it was helpful. They seemed to have fun together.

It’s a team event, they should be able to handle it, however they choose. April asked for help, before it was offered.

April has gotten a lot better. She is obviously working on her game. I don’t know her personally, but have interacted with her in the context of pool. She is great to be around. I don’t know what her Fargo was two years ago, but she is definitely trending up. She has a great upside!

They have to manage the coaching within the alloted time so I don't see a problem if it helps a player. It kinda help equalize the match. I think Shane did a really good job.

it was already equal, women players play other women? now the womens pool effectively becomes mens decision making and womens execution

While I agree that it's fantastic for the better player to help the others, the time for that is in practice. I don't know how much April asked for or wanted help, but I know while I was sitting there watching Shane direct and loom over many of her shots, I was thinking that I would be a tense, second-guessing, bundle of nerves in her position. (At least moreso than I am already.)

Sometimes, such as in matches, you just gotta let people play their game. To her/their credit, she won, so what do I know.

Yeah, the optics aren’t great, from that angle. If you leave gender out of it, it’s a 660 and a 830. If I got an 830 on my team, I’m open to suggestions 🤣

ok, yes it could possibly equalize between two teams, but then again rubilen is surely 750+ fargo and biado was up coaching her. i think predator/WPA didn't think this one through (or have a loophole in their rules)

I believe coaching hurts the Phillipines the most. I believe they have the strongest 3 person team of all countries. Coaching could be an equalizer against the team with a very strong female player if the other team has a mediocre player. Without Shane's coaching the USA would have most likely lost. If I remember correctly, April looked for help on her very first shot.

A 660 vs 754 could never be deemed an even match. Who would you bet on?
