Predator Z VS Predator Z2

I really like the Predator Z shaft... And am considering buying a Z2...

For those of you that use the Z2 and used to use the Z

I would like to know how much difference there is in performance/feel....

Thank you in advance

Please no O.B.1 - Kanobi comparisons......
As it is too whippy for me.....

I like the Z2 slightly better, for what it is worth.

On another note i just found on the predator website that the ferule is 1/10 of an inch smaller on the Z2 VS the Z

I used to play with the z shaft (30") and switched to the z-2 (also 30") and to be honest, the difference in play is barely noticeable. I do like that the new ferrule material stays much much cleaner. If you are going to use the stock tip, the everest that comes on the z-2 is IMO a significantly better tip than the le-pro that came on the first gen.

I had a 31" shaft at one point, it was a miserable depressing experience, and I'm 6'3"... 29" is where I learned and how my cue balances... my 31" shaft doesn't even get a new tip anymore, just sits in the corner thinking about how badly it screwed up my shot.

Using the same tip on both, the Original Z has a softer hit. However the Z2 has less deflection but a little more zip. I play with the Z2 I originally played with the Z. When I find that I'm shooting a little to hard and the pockets are spitting balls as a result of the speed and spin, I'll switch to my Z until I get my stoke and speed back in line then I'll switch back to the Z2.

Black Cat

I measured up two 314-2's ordered at different times against my old 314's. There is a different taper, more meat on the 314-2 and it's stiffer. Predator said the taper hadn't changed, but they defintely measure different than the old shafts. My assumption is the different manufacturing process resulted in a stronger taper.

If you liked the old Z, I would say to also try a 314-2. It's stiff enough and gives a great hit. I play with 30" shafts and it's plenty stiff. I can't play with a whippy shaft either.

TY for the review...
I noticed that you use the 30" model... Have you compared it to the 29".... only reason I ask is because I have had a few 30" 314 shafts and the seem to play a touch softer than the 29" 314...
I was wondering if the Z family was this way too....

kinda hard to believe the ferulle could get any shorter than the original Z... lol
The biggest difference I see between the 30 inch and the 29 inch is the 29 inch plays about an inch shorter. :D:D:D

I have ordered (8) Z2 30" shafts and have had over 3 different lengths.....its seems the quality control has dropped a little

I have had a couple of each, the main difference for me is the quality of the wood. The new Z2 wood is junk compared to my Z, so soft you end up with a ton of dents in no time. The new one seems to have a softer hit as well.

I have a Z Predator sp cue and I must bought a Z2 shaft for my Sailor cue.

I don't care much for the Predator sp w/the z but I can't say enough good things about the Z2 shaft I just got with the 5/16x18. I put a Talisman Xhard tip on it first thing and it is just wonderful. I thought my Starkey cue was sure to become my new playing cue but my old Sailor w/the Z2 is the nuts. Love it!

i will have to agree with you, that quick release joints just do not play anywhere near as good as other options....

I have been looking for an older P2 (the first model) with a 5/16-18 pin.... I know someone who has one but won't get rid of it....

pred.- kamui II s ms m mh h

The 314-2 shafts changed to the z-2 style shafts taper new material and lenght. Put Kamui II with no proporsity They shoot very straight, they back cut balls very well. I've played with the 30 inch as well. They do seem not to take the wear and tear a 250. shaft should be able to take. Your just destined to have to buy a new one every few yrs. I think its the foam and the ferrule application. Alex P uses one plus what many pro's I've seen. On every make of cue. You will need to tighten up bridge hand a little and have straight stroke. I will say my gilbert and martinez hit the ball very straight accuracy is the key on the break as well. Mark There is no magic shaft. magic tip Kamui II play with one or get beat by one.
