Its pretty easy for someone to tell you your cue is worth x amount, but its quite different actually selling for what someone tells you its worth.
I wouldn't put a whole lot of faith is a value someone told me when they aren't ready to whip out the cash to pay that for it. The for sale section is full of thread that have 10 pages of bumps where people have been trying to sell a cue for months.
Someone who has cues for sale could tell you a price that actually way over priced. Why would they do that? If they have cues for sale and you price way over the market, you are not competition.
Also, keep in mind, when a cue dealer tells you the value, they make money buying and selling cues. I'm sure they would like to buy your cue for x and then sell it the next day for x plus. Or, just sell your cue for a commission. I'm not saying any of these are bad things just keep them in mind. No one is your friend and its your responsibility to look out for yourself.
The pool industry is notorious for people looking for angles and making moves.
Price discovery is sometimes an expensive and lengthy process.
My best advice is to educate yourself. Don't rely on others to protect you. Don't be someones victim. As the bible says, give a man fish or teach a man how to fish. Predators don't want you to know how to fish for yourself. There's no profit in it for them.
