Pro lurkers

Since several of you posters seem to have personal connections to some pro players (not to mention those of you who are pros yourselves), I'm curious if there are pros who read this forum but don't post, or who post under an assumed name (I'm not asking you to blow their cover and say what name they use). Anybody know of any pros who read this forum at least occasionally? Besides those who post under their own name, I mean.

I know for a fact that Tony Robles checks in now and then, but won't post because of the flame-job that was given to one of the other pro's that posted here... Can't remember who got bashed... maybe Putnam...

It is a shame because Tony is a great guy that could share some valuable insights to the game.

Bump.

So we've only got one confirmed professional pool player who reads this site (other than the ones who post under their real names)? Nobody else knows of anyone? I'm a little surprised by that.

Just a thought here, but do you think their time is better spent practicing their craft? I dare say that the majority of us would benefit from the pros input much more than they would benefit from ours. And then there have been some flame wars in the past that might discourage participation as well.
Just a thought...

Why would a pro get flamed? I don't get that... at least not in the realm of pool advice. I mean my presumption is that you probably know what you're talking about if you're a pro - ? (w/ regard to pool I mean)...

On the other hand, I can completely understand a pro not wanting to bother sharing secrets it tool a lifetime to acquire, and therefore limiting his/her participation...

Card-man,
I can't recall a single pro who posted here who didn't get flamed almost immediately. Examples: Charlie Williams, John Schmidt, Johnny Archer, Grady Mathews, Danny Harriman, Shawn Putnam, Lil John, all the pro's in the "Ask the Pro's" section.

Hell, if Efren posted here, within 5 minutes there would be some anonymous schmuck (like me probably) offering him advice (or ripping him for his obvious lack of knowledge) on his bridge length, one-pocket strategy, gambling procedures, and wardrobe. Anonymous posters are all-knowing and invincible (I should know).:) :)

P.S. - I ADMIRE and APPRECIATE the pro's that contribute here for their fortitude in ignoring the flamers and morons - we are ALL richer for their participation.

I miss both JAM and Keith.

I can put the smackdown on flamers, but not usually before the damage is done :(

Dang Willie! That alien physical really sharpened you up. Yea …I would probably be guilty of questioning Efren’s choice of partners myself but that’s about it. The rest of the post is spot on.

tap-tap, I also appreciate any / all pro contributions here!
Obviously, I am way too naive thinking pros would've earned presumptive respect.
Finally, I appreciate your confession that you would flame a pro, even Efren. Of course, he's your partner, as I understand it, so naturally you'd want to help him out. :D

Pro players definitely know what they are talking about and how to accomplish things on the pool table. However, most of them also have trouble conveying that information to others.

Also, in the past, I have seen some of the pros post and then get their panties in a bunch when some one questions what they said. They didn't expect to be questioned about anything and they were not prepared for the give and take of a forum. Sometimes, the question is in the form of a flame, but many times it is just someone with a valid question. Also, at times, there is a misunderstanding of the question, which happens a lot on all of the forums.

If a pro posts on a public forum, he/she has to be ready to handle a lot of crap and still be willing to help the people who are honestly trying to learn.
Many may not want to be bothered.

I just want to add that AZB is blessed with a number of pros who can and do give some very good advise and explanations.

Unforutanately, they've all been bashed at some point in time. And then people on the board wonder why the "ask the pros" section is so out of date. Players like Rousey, Barretta, and Keith are generous enough to offer their advice and stories free of charge and some half-wit comes along and start insulting them:(

Here is the reality, and I have experienced it first hand. I am a newer member on this MB, but not on others....

Dave "BlackJack" Sapolis, to name one, was kind enough to share his knowledge, experience, hard earned secrets. He was promptly attacked by someone who relishes in flaming a top flight player. They do this under the condition of anonymity, and when this schmuck finally runs him off the board, he feels like he really accomplished something. The only thing this one butt clown did was ruin an incredible resource of knowledge, with someone who seemed to enjoy sharing information with a complete novice like myself.

Anyways...it seems to me that people take to heart what some guy who they will never meet blasts them, only to get their goat, and to relish their handwork from the fallout from it. Some can be very good at this, too. It's a shame that some of these guys learn this too late. It's like if a guy walked into a pool hall and said these thing to their face, they would probably care less, but because it's on a MB, they just don't know how to handle it.

Heck, ask one fellow who is a good player about something regarding your stroke, or whatever, and all those who think they know it all feel authorized, given permission, etc., to let you know your 1.) elbow isn't perpendicular to ... whatever; 2.) stroke isn't parallel to the slate, or moving in and out, or whatever.... (fill in the blanks...), 3.) chin isn't .005 of a millimeter to the right of the left side of the central portion of the middle section of your butt...

Whew.....

Glad I got that off my chest!

Hey you missed FL, Bernie, Colin and LInda. Was that intentional? You don't consider them pros?

Just kidding.

It comes with the territory. The pros know they were not always angels. And they most likely gave out a lot worse then they received over the years.

Face it, when we read books put out by players all we want is to know of is their dirty deeds. How they took the money from some sucker. The drugs they used. The women they ran with.

But I agree that there really is no point for them to post here. No money to be made here. No knowledge to be gained. And besides, they are all practicing like crazy for the upcoming IPT 8-ball tournament.
