PRO ONE DVD: Answering Questions

The inside of the cue is on the line with the cte line, after the pivot it is exactly dead center cue ball to somewhere on the object ball, right? im not sure im getting you, Dave?

Just because the tip is at center ball doesn't mean the cue is on the CTEL - it's not. Otherwise it'd be a parallel shift as opposed to a pivot. In order to pocket balls, the butt is NOT on the CTEL even if the tip is. The cue is on a different line altogether. It might seem like it, but it's not.

Repetition & practice. I've been using cte for quite awhile and I'm still not always positive on which pivot it is. Most of the time as it says in the video it's obvious, but sometimes, it's not and when you pivot wrong you miss by alot.

As someone with very limited practice using it, is there an easy way to tell which way to pivot? My best guess from the 90mins or so I've spent shooting some shots is that the pivot is based on whether the hit of the ball is to full or to thin and then pivot accordingly. Have no idea if that is right or not, but it makes sense and would love to know so I'm not guessing wrong.

Grid Layout, Example Shots, & Table Size Question

This might be a dumb question, but I've never claimed to be real bright, so here goes:

When an example shot on Stan's dvd is shown with the balls on specific grid locations,
is it correct for different size tables?

My table is a 7 foot Valley bar box, and some of the sample shots don't seem to work
like they should.

For Instance:
At 24:50 minutes into the dvd, a cut into a corner is shown with the
cue ball at grid number 28 and the object ball at grid location 20.
Using cte to right side of ob, and left cueball edge to aim point B,
it calls for a right pivot.
In fact, on the dvd, I can clearly see Brandon use the right pivot.

However, when I try it, it is too thick.
The only way it will work for me is to use the left pivot.
Left pivot works for me every time.

So I'm grasping at straws to find out what is going on here.
I've had problems with layouts from other sources before,
so just wondering if table size makes any difference (scratching my head and mumbling to myself).

.

Well, I thought I had this all figured out, but I was wrong. Do you slide into the shot on one of the lines or inbetween the lines?

I don't think the table size would make a difference, but not sure.
The pivot can be a little confusing if not paying attention. The direction of the pivot is also the side that you line up in relationship to center ball. IOW, on a right pivot, the tip starts right of center and you pivot from right to left.

This sounds to me like you are talking after the pivot? Do you want to hear that your cue is parallel to the ctel and not on it? I have not included the extreme obvious when i post here. maybe thats the problem? Learning this system is all about pre pivot, post pivot is stroke through the cue ball and hope you did everything correct pre pivot. Post pivot we can talk about english but other than that really, it meaningless, im just saying.

I can shoot, an have shot pro1 100% of the time. I pretty much shot pro1 before this dvd came out using feel and adjusting. im just trying to keep this basic and help some guys over a hump and not getting technical.

i have used this system on a 7 foot bar box and full sized snooker table and anything in between :) it works on all tables. When your set up after the pivot use some of your ghost ball experience and really look at the shot and if it doesn't feel right, get back up and switch your pivot or reference point until it feels right, i do this sometimes, trust me :)

Before you pivot the cue is basically parallel to the cte line, after the pivot the cue is angled across the cte line at center cue ball.

Thanks for getting me to the point where I can discount the table making a difference.

Now to experiment with my bridge placement & pivot.

The hint about using ghost ball experience to confirm the setup would probably be good for ghostball users, but I've never been able to see the ghost ball.
Should work with contact point to contact point though.

So far, the only two example shots I'm missing are the ones at 22:00 and 24:50.
I 'm putting off working on the banks until I can get the cuts down better.

I have said this 5 times already  only i used on the ctel instead of parallel. So there are two parallel lines and my cue has to be on one (i will clarify this for anyone who has not seen the dvd, it should be against and parallel with the ctel) does this make the pj's,gmt happy out there :)

I guess you haven't been real clear, I'll try to pay better attention. If its against the ctel where is it after the pivot?

It will work with the contact point also.

22:00 shot because of the angle you need to use the B reference and again because of the angle you need to pivot from the right side even though its a cut to the right.

24:00 mark with using cte you have usually 2,3,4 options on pocketing a ball straight in some where when the balls are in the middle. He is showing u an example of changing ur pivot L or R and changing your reference point to make the ball in different pockets. <<< if your detailed on whats confusing you i will help.

hmmmm, who gives a shit! does it really matter where the cue is after the pivot? explain to me why this is important and how that helps knowing this?

It is important to know that your cue is angled across the ctel. I give a shit, if were going to get it right then lets get it right.

The 2nd problem shot is at 24:50.
Since both of these shots are right pivots, I'm going to work on that aspect.

I'm not really confused so much as I just need to work on the shots as shown on the dvd.
Thanks for the offer of help though. I may take you up on that later.

If u think that helps you or is important knowing your cue has crossed the ctel great! as for me its meaningless information, im just saying :) and i have been right about all the info i have posted on here :)

24:50 one shot is a cut to the right and the other is a cut to the left but with right pivots, this is whats probably making you scratch your head. The shot to the side because of the angle you can only make it with a right pivot, identical shot at 22:40 but on the rail :)

there are also guys on here i have noticed and can tell by there posts that they have not bought the dvd but are trying to figure out stans system. So i will word things a certain way so if you watch the dvd you will understand. I paid for the dvd and only want to help those who have also.

Solution To My Problem Shots

.......
So far, the only two example shots I'm missing are the ones at 22:00 and 24:50.

The problem turned out to be my bridge distance on the 2 shots I was having problems with.
After reading the Glossery on the dvd and using the recommendations under
"Bridge Distances for Basic CTE (Just Cue It Recommended)", I was able to make the shots with no problem.

This is something that could have been emphsized more on the dvd, but the information is there, so I won't complain.

The journey continues .....

You should be able to make these shots with a normal bridge distance. I said this before, this dvd is complete and covers everything you need to know! If you keep watching it over and over, you will find the answer to any problem. The time will come when you step to the table and just shot and make the ball, you wont be thinking "this is a right pivot with a b reference"

with experience you will learn to cheat pockets also, not be afraid to cut balls into tight side pockets, you will see some back cuts that you never really considered shooting or even looking at before.

I sometimes set up cte but dont pivot on some cuts because i see i can make the ball with out a pivot. But this has come with a couple years experience and suggest you ignore this and learn off the dvd.
