PRO ONE for Dummies, using *GASP* a diagram.

I have worked with the system for over a year now and I have improved quite a bit. It takes time and effort (at least it did for me).

It is now very natural for me but it wasn't for the first 6 months - it was conscious as it was new and still in the learning phase. I captured our Elite league title and 5K just 6 months into my training and I feel much more prepared now than I did then. It is hard for me to explain but my game is so much tighter now.

I immediately see shot lines - I do not wonder what the visuals on the OB are - I just see them and execute. Sometimes when I video calling out the visuals/sweeps it confuses even me because I have to bring the information to the conscious mind again.

Pro One has changed the way I look at aiming and the game as a whole. I pocket better, bank better, kick better, jump better, have better fundamentals and now a much improved PSR.

Stan nailed it with aiming in a new dimension because it truly is just that. I feel like I should never miss a ball but of course we all do.

Don't know Phil. I know Stevie was a pretty good pro before adapting the aiming system. The fact that a top player was converted is impressive, as is Stan's achievement. Very impressive.

I've also seen Landon play. One of the best strokes in the game. Only drink and women would stop him from achieving some high finishes in coming years.

Phil Burford is a young guy who is in my opinion one of the upcoming world champions if he stays with the game. He has already some big tournaments on his shoulders.
He was also already a good shotmaker before- but it s easy to tsee, that he improved a lot after working with Stan for a longer time.

Phil is one of the best shotmakers i ve seen in a long time. If this guy get s just a bit more expirience here and there......he will be the one to beat

Thanks Gerry,
When you do the sweep, is the visual forgotten at that point or do you follow it along the line to the CCB?

And I wondered if you look at the OB during the sweep to CCB?

One more thing if you don't mind. Do you think you swoop (pull or push across the aim line) less now than before, due to a greater trust in your alignment?

GW: Once I have the visual my attention switches to CCB and nothing else.

GW: No

GW: Yes and there is no adjusting at the cue ball like I would do before.

Nice cueist. I saw him beat Busta. I was thinking it sounds like good news for the US Mosconi Cup future, but I see he's a UK junior champion.

My personal evolution with the system is as follows:

1. Learn how to see the two lines, and where to stand.
2. Learn the sweeps.
3. Learn when to use which sweep (left or right) for the shot at hand.

#3 has been the most difficult, and I'd say the one that requires the most practice with the system. Every single shot I have now, I know what visuals I should be using about 90% of the time, but sometimes I pick the wrong sweep.
I'm confident that anyone could set up a makeable shot for me, and I could make it in 2-3 tries. I'm extremely confident that once I make it the first time, I could then make it 8 out of 10.

I concur. The main practice after getting the basics down is simply practice and memorizing the proper sweep for each type of shot. But there are rules for that as well that Stan presents on the DVD. I find that it's getting increasingly easier to lock into the right combination because shots tend to fall into groups where the same or similar combination works.

After you find the fixed CB (#1), imagine if you did no sweep but instead shot the CB straight forward. Would the OB hit the pocket long or short? This is the easiest way (IMHO) to determine which sweep to use.

Thanks Colin - I want to play some Joss events and maybe head to SBE. I havent competed much lately so I need to get back at it - young family makes it tough.

I need seasoning against tough competition for sure.

It's working, that's for sure! Keep it up and hope to watch you playing in some big tournies next year.

Colin

Proper Prospective + Proper bridge length + Pro One Rotation into the shot line ='s about 85% of the system... the rest is Speed and spin considering banks and needed shape.

There is an element missing that is the human part of the game, the stroke. By stroke I mean every nuance that is human error: stance, alignment, cue movement, etc. This is what makes pool a game, as we all make errors. I believe stroke is like 50% of the effort, aiming is the other 50%. With that in mind, you can't teach stroke with a few words from a book or video. It takes lots of table time.

CTE PRO ONE is more of a complete playing system, not just an aiming system. Although CTE will strengthen the aiming part of your PSR by leaps and bounds, it also strengthens the stroke as you work with it.

I agree. Also what many might not know and as I am learning is that there are also stance issues that even a decent player can improve on. It's really hard to self-diagnose. Having a pro around to help tweak little things can make a big difference. You can see the balls correctly, and get into the shot on the correct line but if the stance is slightly off then it can affect the delivery and throw the cue ball off the right line just enough.

It's unfortunate me living in Nepean and you living in Stittesville, we could have had one of those AZB King of the hill matches. It could have been streamed and/or taped. If you and the family ever decide to move into my neck of the woods look me up and we can play the match. When you mention "tough competition" does annoying count?

Cheers,

Wow, Nepean and Stittesville. I spent lots of time,in an earlier career, calling on Nortel and Mitel up there. Don't know about Pool Halls in that area, didn't play pool then and wasted too much time in the Peeler Bars (Canadian term I think) in Ottawa and across the river. LOL

Lol - Sheldon, is my light ready for pickup yet? You should post some pics of the work you did.

LMAO - that is funny!

I am hoping Stans second DVD arrives today :)

That's great! Just do your best, knowing that the first few events will do a lot for you in regards to getting the feel for competition and identifying aspects to improve upon. IOW, don't stress if your best game doesn't turn up early on... it rarely does when coming back. Be patient, you'll soon enough be playing at or near your best in that environment.

If you could find someone who can keep you in your chair a bit, and lock you up a bit, to practice with, that would be ideal.

One of the pleasures of playing pool....is making the ob in the desired pocket. There is a connection from the cb to the ob to the pocket with feel pocketing. Do CTE users have that same connection? It seems to me the pocket is out of the connection. ie...you setup and aim without the pocket connection. Yes there is a sense of satisfaction if the ob does indeed go in the pocket...but is it the same feeling of satisfaction one gets with the connection to the pocket?

Just curious

It hard to imagine how beautiful it is using CTE. You get connected to the whole table in ways that are way deeper.

Once you're on the right line you have such an intense connection with the shot and the pocket that it's like a good drug.

Bob, especially for a more difficult shot, when you get the correct visual, align perfectly and deliver a good stroke (all using CTE/Pro One), the ball just seems to drive into the middle of the pocket. I liken it to hitting a golf ball with the sweet spot of the golf club ... you don't even have to look, you know from the feeling it is going to be a great shot. Assuming you get Stan's most recent DVD, watch the shots Landon is hitting through the curtain and I believe you will have the answer to your question. He is absolutely cracking table length cuts into the corner pockets, all you see on the video is a blur where the ball is traveling.
