Does anyone have a link to a site that has a listing of what kind of cues and maybe tips some of the pro and top players use. Thanks

I was pretty impressed with the World Pool Championship website which details a few tidbits on the cues of the 128 competitors of the recent 2005 WPC: http://www.worldpoolchampionship.com

The WPBA website -- http://www.wpba.com -- is full of wonderful bios as well as cue info.

As an aside, I did not know Julie Kelly had her own website -- http://www.juliekelly.net -- and that her nick name is "Motor Molly." She is one of my favorite WPBA pros. The WPBA website showcases its members in a bright light and is a great example of what a "governing body of professional pool" should be all about.

The UPA website may have some snippets of info, but since its list of Touring Pros hasn't been updated in well over 2 years, I do not know if all of the data is accurate.

Rodney Morris has been shooting with the same cue since 1994, a Szamboti.

Hope this helps a little. I'm sure others will add to the thread. :p

Three Observations....

Alison Fisher & Earl Strickland are Cuetec Sponsored, so I assume they plays with TRICKED OUT Cuetec Cue.

Karen Corr wear a Falcon Logo on here Blouse when she plays, so I assume she is Sponsored by Falcon, and I assume she plays with TRICKED OUT Falcon Cue.

As a side note I have read many times in instructional books, and heard many times on instructional tapes, a Great Tip on a Bad Cue is better than a Bad Tip on a Great Cue.

JAM - Thought that Rodney had his Szamboti stolen enroute to a tournament a while back, did he get it back?

I've met and played against several pros that are sponsored, and from what I've seen so far, the sponsored players used basic off the shelf cues from their sponsor. However, it's obvious that these players work man to man with their sponsors to get the weight, taper, balance and other minor selections tuned into their cues, but for all real purposes, the cues that I've seen them use are no different than the cues that can be bought by the typical consumer as long as he/she is willing to fish through a particular batch of cues of the same maker to find one of his/her liking. One particular player, Johnny Archer brought his Scorpion to Japan and I played him along with Charlie Williams in a couple of challenge matches, and I had a chance to play with both of their cues, and Charlies played like an off the shelf Predator, and Johnnys cue played like an off the shelf Scorpion.
I played Charlie to a 6-4 loss, and then we switched cues for another go around. He used my cue (a custom with considerably more deflection than his Predator) and he beat me 6-2. These players can play with anything 'cause they can make the adjustment, which is more than I can say for myself. I couldn't do anything with Charlies Predator.

From what I heard, his pool case & luggage had been ransacked while inroute to Taiwan. Lucky for him, the idiots didn't know what they were doing... they took a jump cue & left the Szamboti.

Wow, if that is true Rodney is one lucky guy.

As for cues the pro's use, this website has a lot of that information in the Players section. Some may be outdated but some is still accurate.

Pagulayan - Schon / Predator shaft
Daulton - Southeast
Koop - Viattorre/Qbilder
Owen - Shurtz
Yang - SouthWest
etc...

Guess it wasn't "fancy" enough for them! Idiots! And I don't mean that they should have taken the Szam, I mean that if you're going to take the chance on losing your job and possibly future employment, then at least know what the F#$k you're doing.

What i find to be funny some of the best players in the world play with low end cue ..200-500 .and i have a cue that is a Grand and can snap off A 1 on 1 match with Tony Robles..He play with a preadtor..I should get one ..NOPE .I Tryed that long time ago ..I't didn't help then will not help now .( or maybe ! ).. :( :(

Tokyo-Dave:

ESPN ran the Archer-Hohman match a week or so ago. It's the one where Johnny gets shut out 7-0.

Near the end of game six, Archer kicked at the 7-8 combo and missed. As he went to sit down, I clearly heard him say "every time I use English, it squirts off".

There you have it! It's not the cue, it's the person using it!

I shot with Johnny in ATL last year, and your right, it's an 'off the shelf' Scorpion, save a 30" wood Scorpion shaft...

I saw on the wpc website that thorsten hohmann uses a lucasi. Since when did he start using that? Has he been sponsered by them b/c w/e I see him hes using the same stick that I think is a custom.

archer has someone make his shafts special for him.i know this for a fact but i probably should not say who.

Do tell, I would like to know ...
Plus he use to play witha Schon long time ago .And won everything he enter .With a Mace j/b cue .. in the case ...

he has won more with the Schon....then this line of cues for Japan..

Pro Cues...

If you subscibe to Inside Pool and are lucky enough to be receiving your subscription with any regularity...they have a feature called, 'What's In the Bag'. They take a look at what the featured Pro that month has in his/her case. They will tell you what kind of Case, Cue, J/B, the different tools etc. that they carry. One of my favorite things to read.

Rodney retired his Gus Szam. and is now shooting with his Barry Szam..
Too much to lose if the Gus was lost or stolen. Not to say it wouldn't be a big loss if his other was lost or stolen either.

Robb shoots with an Andy Gilbert.

Charlie of course a Predator.

Tony Crosby with a Casanova.

Some people are touchy about tip information so I won't give that out.
