Production Cues

I once asked the question ?can you rate the top custom pool cue makers? or put them in tiers? I was not surprised to learn that while they could be separated into groups many peoples opinions were relative to their personal experience with the cue or people?s personal agendas. So while the thread I started did serve to educate me in a number of areas and some other people here pointed me to similar thread that were quite helpful? getting a stone cold answer to the question was impossible.

I have another question, which could be answered in much the same ways I guess? But I would think that this question has a little bit more finite answers?

Can you rate the top production cue makers in quality or playability? Maybe just top 10 or so?

Some examples would be Shon, Joss, Viking, Predator, Meucci, McDermott, Lucasi, Falcon, and like?

You got it

It looks like you have already figured it out and made the list of 8. I will add Meucci and Players to give you 10.

It is all personal preference and this is why you don't get a definate answer from all players. I myself would put Schon at the top of the list and any of the others in random order.

From what I have hit with more than once in order...

1. Schon
2. Joss
3. Jacoby <-- semi custom I guess but price and construction methods are closer to the others in this list
Latest Meucci with a Red Dot shaft.
4. Some McDs <-- they seem to vary more in "feel" than other brands I have hit with a few that were in my top 10, others that felt like a log.
5. Predator <-- good hit but not my cup of tea with the shaft feel for the most part
6. Viking <-- all the ones I played with (3 over 10 years) have had a dead feel to them, much like the bad McDs

I don't remember playing with any others for more than a hit or 2.

Pechauer needs to be next to Schon on the list and ahead of Joss. I think you can lump Players, Lucasi, Scorpion, and Action into the same group somewhere well down the list.

Why would you say Jacoby is semi custom? IMO they are custom. They do have "lines" that are produced but they are still made by hand and to your specifications.

1. Schon
2. Predator
3. Joss
4. Pechauer
5. Jacoby
6. Mcdermott
7. Viking
8. Lucasi
9. Meucci
10. Players

i would rather have a joss than a pechauer.

Schon will probably be te overwhelming favorite in production cues.

I ll take my Pechauer over all the rest, given the price is the same. Lots of bang for the buck imo. They did a great job on my custom too - fast and at a very resonable price.

And its made in US.

Of the 5-6 Joss ive played some felt great but they all hit differently. (Must be me, but it doesnt matter).

The Schon cues are ok too but I still like Pechauer.

Schon, Joss, Jacoby, Pechauer all make fine cues.

Schon and Jacoby are closer to custom shops that have standard lines, and I suspect Joss is as well.

My understanding is that Mcdermott is a factory produced cue, as I believe are meucci, falcon, predator, and a few others.

Doesn't make them good or bad, just think the leaders in the list are much smaller shops with more control over the product.

Well spoken sir.

But thats exactly why you have to stick your nose out. Vive de la petit differance! - Or something. :p

Pechauer and Ray Schuler are the only
two production cues I would even remotely
consider in my personal arsenal of cues

I'm gonna guess you could find a Jacoby that you'd not mind playing too if you tried a few (different joints, etc.). I've tried a few Pechauers that I liked the feel of, and some I didn't care for at all....same with Jacobys. I've only tried one Schuler, and it was very nice.
