Proposed TAR - TOI VS NO AIMING SYSTEM

You still don't get it. You give them a 15 second shot clock, and you just knocked most of what the viewers really want to see right out of the game. Why does everyone want to see McCready and Earl? Because of the banter they have. 15 sec., you just eliminated what the viewers want to see, and the only thing that has a chance of making pool work on T.V. Better go back to your think tank for a while.

Banter is for exhibitions. CJ wants Big Brother meets WWF, and you want feel-good after dinner speeches. Farce or nostalgia - take your pick.

None of the old models will work IMO. It can become another craze with clever marketing, but cue sports has a credible and professional representative already, and it ain't pool.

O.K., then please explain the downturn of snooker. It's not near as popular as it was a few years ago.

Call pocket, Winner Break, no specialty cues, no corner ball, break from the box, 4.25 inch pockets, Incoming Player has option to pass the shot unless it's a safe, one two way shot a game, one two way safe a game, and a 15 second shot clock, race to 15, and a Ref. with white gloves racking the balls, and players dressed in Giorgio Armani.

This is a must, whatever happens. Priority number one: strong governing body to implement change, with NO input from players.
However, like I have stated in my last posts there must be an emotional attachment to the professionals playing the game. The Game cannot be expected to draw the audience, but the players can. It's been done before and history always repeats its self as long as the model is duplicated properly.

The game MUST be the draw.

30 million regular players in China alone would suggest otherwise...Sports come in and out of fashion. Football is king worldwide and I don't see that changing anytime soon. Gaming and the internet has changed everything. Our leisure time has diminished and how we use it has altered in line with societal needs.

At a minimum, you need;

1. A credible game
2. Strong organisation
3. Prize money
4. Exposure
5. Opportunity
6. Brand

In short, means, motive, opportunity.

What we need to think of is this; not what WE liked, but what the next generation WILL like.

We just saw one of our critics out enjoying the sunshine

CJ, Thanks for the story. I know it must be hard to muster up any ambition to tell us these tales when you have to explain away all the circumstances involved. FWIW, there's more than a few of us that will take what you say at face value and not stir the pot. Although I grew up in Chicago, I must be more naive than most. View attachment 302807:grin-square:

Best,
Mike

You're really cool, Mike, we know for every "critic" there's thousands of positive minded people who "real eyes" that we must be willing to believe pocket billiards can change before it actually will....this is the natural process passed down from the dawn of time.

This story was in my blog here on azbilliards, just wanted to see who was reading my posts most intently (it's not the first time)......so we can give them a great big "Thank You" for playing along.

It's a beautiful day here in Texas, the economy is the best it's ever been, the birds are singing and the game of pool is booming again....what could be better? ;)

We even saw one of our "chief critics" out enjoying the sunshine. :D

"real eyes" there are blogs on azbilliards

I was thinking the same thing................but then I believe it was intricacies of "TOI" instead of intricacies of 'Two Shot Shoot Out'. ??

Edit: wrong, no TOI mentioned on original.

Yes, we did a test earlier this year and posted articles on Azbilliards under blogs..... there's a few that don't "real eyes" there are blogs on azbilliards so we moved it to Face Book and www.cjwiley.com - occasionally we slip one in to see if anyone notices.

Thanks for noticing. :D

Not every story has TOI in it, this one "might" have something much more serious.

Not every story has TOI in it, here's an example:

I was hanging out at my pool room "CJ's" behind the bar of all places....I really didn't spend a lot of time back there, but this day was the exception. An older man came in, sat down and ordered a soda...I knew how to "mix" that one so I got it for him and set it down.

The man said "you are the professional pool player CJ aren't you?"....I replied "yes, that's me, unless I owe you money - LoL"....he laughed, took a drink and said, "no, you don't owe me money, but I would like to ask you a question that may result in some."

I suddenly felt him get serous and wondered what this older man was up to -

"sure, you can ask me whatever you want" I said, leaning against the cooler.....the man pointed at the pool table and ask "what are you trying to achieve playing that Game?"....

I hesitated, thought and replied "I'm trying to be the best player I can be, maybe even the best in the world, at least for a time-being".

The man place his napkin between us, looked into my eyes and said firmly -

"you know this Game you play is already perfect....it's up to you to uncover it" and immediately turned over the napkin and looked under it.....

"Do You Understand" he said firmly again "The Game is already perfect, it's just up to you to uncover that Perfection", again he lifted up the napkin, looked under it and then quickly back into my now de-focused stare.

His eyes by now felt like they were probing my very soul and I shifted a bit, suddenly feeling more clear, answered "I think I understand.....it's not me that has to be perfect, it's the game, so I don't need to try to be perfect, I just need to Uncover the Perfection that's already been placed there...in the Game.....by...uhhhh".

He smiled at my hesitation and finished "by the Breath of the Universe or The Breath of a Higher Power, right now that's not as important as you having Faith that it's true!

He then told me to hold on for a minute and went to his car and brought back a book called 'A Parenthesis in Eternity', that I read and still have to this day.....this was one of those occasions that influenced me so much I find myself wondering if this old man was really an old man.....or.....angel....no, that would be silly now wouldn't it?.....hmmm, I still can't help but wonder...?"

Too bad ignore doesn't work while you're logged out..

Isn't the one above also a "story" told a couple of months ago? This isn't Groundhog Day.

Sounds great.......partner. ;)

I used to travel with a player from MO. named Rusty Brandimiere.....he called himself "Tommy Tucker, the pool sucker" to the suckers in the bars.

We were in a bar and two guys wanted us to play them partners for $50 a man.

Rusty looked at them dead serious and said "you mean you and your partner want to play me and my partner partners, partner?" ......I couldn't keep a straight face on that one :D

The original thread telling the story about running into your old McDermott cue was dated Jan '13. Just confused why you added "showing players the intricacies of 'Two Shot Shoot Out'" in your re- post.

It's all about the unabashed opportunistic shill, Duke. Don't you know that? ;)

It's actually a perfect balance between the two.

Because that's all we've been playing lately and I've been showing many people the intricacies of 'Two Shot Shoot Out".....and that's the game we've been talking about in this thread......is it strategically more difficult than one pocket or not? I believe it is, since the shots that come up are far more difficult on the average, and there is the "Shoot or Pass" element that I find very appealing.

We'll prove the difference one of these days, I know many will be surprised how that comes out. I've got a new interest in Pool again, I had forgot how great these rules are.

Here's a picture of a cue like the one in the story, there aren't many of them, We just found this one while going through my cue collection.

sometimes it's just a matter of changing the way it's viewed - a paradigm shift. ***

The game MUST be the draw.

The Game will be the draw...and the Teacher. I'm excited, and truly believe we finally figured out what the "missing link" has been all this time. Only time will tell if it's right or not, but at least it's interesting again, that makes all the difference. I've shown some of my best consultants the concept and they really like it....and the important thing is they don't play or watch pool....and they said they'd watch it in the new format....it's encouraging, because I agree with everyone that says pool is boring to watch, that's painfully evident, and sometimes it's just a matter of changing the way it's viewed - a paradigm shift. ***

Paradigm Shift is a change from one way of thinking about a particular subject to another way of thinking about it. Thomas Kuhn defined and popularized the concept in, The Structure of Scientific Revolution, which he wrote in 1962. You can find more information here: http://www.taketheleap.com/define.html

I read your post grandpa, and I did not use up my last brain cell on my last post. I easily have 17 to 48 left. Plenty enough for you. I am looking forward to the thread you mentioned.

PS. Love your new movie, it's very funny.
