Pros Could Be So Much Better if

Burn all jump cues

I very seldom see a top 100 pro(Earl don't count) with any of the new hi-tech gimmicks that have come out in the last 10 years. They all just use a solid custom cue, a piece of Master's Chalk, and shoot the ball in the pocket. Imagine if they took the time to read AZ and found out about all these secret gizmos how much better their games would be? Johnnyt

I thought that SVB was on OB1's playing staff for a while (before OB went so big).

Hi Johnnyt from what I have herd most of them think they are too good to try anything new. They really don?t like to put as much work in as it takes. I was hoping to see Allison come into the finals and the DCC so it would wake up some of the men and show them they need to work a little harder at their game. I guess someday them will learn.

Hi Johhny,

Maybe we'd all be a little better if we stopped trying to use these "new gizmos" as a crutch. In my opinion these "gimmicks", are just that.....gimmicks! It takes more effort and thought to use these gizmos than it does to just practice. I've been guilty and bought my fair share of hi-tech gadgets, however nothing works better than just plain old practice. Not just shooting balls, but diligently working on a part of your game thats weak...like straight in shots...or 30 degree cuts, etc. I think the pros have already found this out....and thats why they are better than everyone else.

My 2 cents,

Phillip

I don't think this is that true. A lot of top players have cue endorsements so they're limited to their choice of cues / options.

That aside, a lot of pros play with Predator shafts.

And those who don't have very specific tapers, ferrules, cue lengths, weights, etc. that they prefer. Just because their cues aren't "high-tech" (whatever that means in cuemaking terms) doesn't mean they're not quality and top-notch. Nor does it mean the player is too arrogant to get a newer cue. I think they just have what works for them (or what they're being paid to use).

This was my point of the thread...thank you. Johnnyt

Hey guys, guys. Shhhhh. Listen. (Dead silence, please)

There is no magical tool that will make you Efren. Time, patience, open mind, constant tough action (tournaments, or gambling), and strong will to win are things that get you there. I will sell you every one of these items for $19.99. Please send cash.

I love this post

This really gets to the heart of the matter. It reminds me of all the weight loss products they have out there. Well said Crawfish!

had a guy just yesterday saying he wanted to buy a new meucci. that he cant draw with any other cue and he wants to play with a cue that will draw for him without him having to do anything.

We just sat there and stared at him.. like he was some sort of lower subspecies. Gotta love how some people really rely on specific equipment.

I don't know what level this (as you say) subspecies is, but perhaps he meant that he gets much better draw action with a meucci.

Saying he can't draw the ball might have just been a figure of speech...Perhaps he meant he can't draw the ball (as much as he would like) ...

I promise you that I can give you two cues and if you use the same exact stroke, you will get more draw action with one and less with the other...

You may be able to draw both (to some degree) but one will fit better with your natural stoke...

Why play with a cue that you have to "work" to draw the CB if there are set ups that fit your timing of stroke and allow you to draw the ball much better with less effort?

Seems like the one that fits your natural stroke would produce more consistant results over the long run...(and on that "key" pressure shot)

true. you have a point. this is just a character who tries to draw with various cues while talking them down after he "supposedly" hits it perfectly and the ball still rolls forward :D

But if he had the sacred meucci everything would work perfectly.

Ok...now I know what "level" he is....In that case the cue won't make much difference....;)

Draw is helped more with the tip than anything else. As long as the two tips are alike and you know how to stroke and where to hit the ball cues don't make too much difference. Johnnyt

If there was a tangible, living, breathing, functional tour that would yield financial and life altering rewards, you would see the change you talk about. So for now, like water it'll seek its level.

I, like some others on AZB, buy alot of cues. Seldom do I buy alot of this other stuff that is for sale out there. But sometimes I do. Is it to make me a great player? No, I'm aware that the only way to get better is practice and tougher competition. But you know what? Some of these things are helpful. Depends. I wear a glove when I shoot...almost the only one I've seen around that does. Why? Because it removes a distraction for me. Why buy new cues? NO magic cue...but the one that does exactly what you are looking for. For me it's touch...feel...whatever you want to call it. After playing pool for a few years I finally decided to take some lessons. Two lessons in and I've already seen a huge jump in my confidence and ability to pocket balls. So, do you think none of the top pros ever try this stuff? Maybe not in matches. But I'll bet you anything they try them at home. Where no one sees them.
The only magic potion is time, proper practice, and patience.

I disagree.....It is more than just the tip...Shaft taper plays a significant role...

and (too much) is subjective......The important point is it does make a difference.

If a pro is given it for free then he tries it and then sells it. If he has to buy it with his own money...he won't ever try one. Johnnyt

You're probably right....

I'd say that pro's would be so much better if they'd stop whacking their sticks on the playing table! I'm sure that there are better analogies than this, but its like dating this hot blonde and making her where ten pair of overalls ??!**^%*%*^%$*#(&*&$_+$*$)&^)(*$&!@!$! Most pro's I've seen don't hold much regard for their playing equipement. Dirty, dinged shafts seem to be the rule. What have youall seen ??

I think the important point is how it makes a difference. And I think Johnny's right - it's the stroke, not the stick. Being comfortable with your stick is important to your stroke - that's the "how" in this case.
