Pros That Run Tours & Play In Them?

Do you think it's alright for a pro to play in his own tournaments. Some of them take out/win 30 to 40% or more of the purse $ each year. On one hand it's great that they are running a tour and or the other it's not great that other are paying to travel, eat, and entry fee for a chance at about half the purse money. What do you all think about this. Johnnyt

I see no problem with it.

I think it's fine. Organizing a tournament and getting paid to do so is one thing, an entirely different thing than playing in one.

Definitely OK. In fact, some of them started these tours just so they'd have something in which to compete.

Some of the tours have killer fields, so I see nothing wrong with that, but some are like beating baby seals. Johnnyt

I don't think playing in a tournament that they are organizing/running gives them any advantage at all. If anything, it probably decreases their chance of winning due to the stress and workload of actually running the tournament then having to play at the same time. Look at Oskar Dominguez and Tony Robles, they both have their respective tournaments that they run but they're not winning it most of the time, sometimes not even getting in the money round.

I don't see a problem with it. If they didn't create the tourney in the first place no one would be able to play a tourney there that day.

As long as the running of the tournament does not interfere with playing. My wife was playing I a tournament and the girl running the tournament would constantly leave the table to take care of this or that. It was very distracting and not fair to the opponent.

This same girl was a real AH. Dennis Hatch was playing in one of her tournaments and got into it with her over something and punched her in the face. We got him out of there before the cops came.

My only concern is that someone else should have final say on rules and other such issues. I don't know how Oscar and Tony handle it if there's a rules dispute or something similar. Do they make the decision?

So you guys helped him get away with that...
Sounds weak to me, no matter how much of an A-hole she was. +1 for pro pool players.

Idk about Oscar but in Tony's tournament, Finnegan usually is a referee and makes the decision if/when Tony is unable to, but there are probably other refs that I'm unaware of.

Yeah, he's real good at hitting women. I never thought much of him and told him so to his face. Johnnyt

No, you had to know this girl. I don't know if you would define Dennis as a pro at the time he was pretty young and traveling with his father. People on here who knew his father know how he screwed Dennis up back then. It is not something Dennis would do today, "ALTHOUGH", seeing this girl get punched out didn't bother anyone. I will have to ask my wife she has a better memory then me. She may have slapped Dennis first for calling her a name.

I just remembered this, while all this is going on Miz and Jerry Watson just kept playing their match in another part of the room like nothing was happening.

One potential problem would be if the pro messed with the entry list to get a lock...

This is only my opinion, but I play in Oscar's tournaments and there is no problems at all. Oscar's other half, Desiree actually runs the tournament so there really is no interference when he is playing a match. In addition, the draw is fair and open for anyone to watch. I feel the pressure and workload of putting on the tournament actually works against him instead of giving him an edge. To his credit, he still finishes high but seems to be exhausted and out of gas by the time the finals are played.
